The BBC has now released a number of Doctor Who set images, making it incredibly easy for fans of the popular show to make or take their next Zoom call from inside the TARDIS. This is just the latest example of the many ways those forced to work at home can customize their video-chatting experience through the use of official images.

With the COVID-19 pandemic causing people to stay home, there’s been a sharp increase in the use of video chat and conferencing apps. This is particularly true when it comes to Zoom and one of the reasons for this is how easy it is to add a custom or third-party background. As a result, a number of companies and brands have been making official images available for users to download and apply as their background, with the BBC now the latest.

The BBC has actually released a variety of ‘empty set’ images which are perfect for Zoom backgrounds. However, among the mix of shows and images, there’s a great selection of Science Fiction images, with empty sets from Quatermass and the Pit, A for Andromeda, and Blake's 7 available. As well as a selection of Doctor Who images with various set shots of the TARDIS, and spanning the various Doctor Who ages. For example, you can pick from the TARDIS in the 1976 The Masque of Mandragora episode starring the fourth Doctor, Tom Baker. Alternatively, you could opt for TARDIS imagery from 1980 or 1983, or go as modern as possible with two different 2019 TARDIS images available.

How To Download Doctor Who Backgrounds & Add To Zoom

As is the case with almost any third-party background, adding these classic Doctor Who images to Zoom is super easy to do. Simply clicking any of the images on the BBC page immediately opens a full-quality version that can be downloaded on either a mobile phone or desktop. The process of then adding to Zoom is straightforward, albeit slightly different depending on whether uploading from a smartphone or a PC.

If uploading via a PC, or through a browser in general, then you’ll first need to log in to your Zoom account as normal. Following which, clicking on the profile icon reveals a “Virtual Background” option in the Settings menu. From here, users can then either select one of the already available images to set as their background or upload the TARDIS image by clicking on the “+” symbol and hitting “save” once the image has been uploaded. On mobile, the process of adding a background image is the same, although to be able to access the “Virtual Background” option, users already need to be taking part in a Zoom call, with the setting accessible via the menu button in the app. Through either method, the result is the same with your next Zoom call or meeting taking place against the backdrop of Doctor Who’s TARDIS.
