The Doctor has been in many dangerous and downright weird predicaments over his long alien life - but save the Daleks? – that can’t be right? The highly-anticipated seventh series of BBC’s astonishing space drama Doctor Who may not have a set release date yet, but in a new trailer for the premiere episode Asylum of the Daleks it appears the Doctor has to rescue his worst enemies.
For those new to the TARDIS and not too familiar with the Daleks – they are debatably the most fearsome creatures the Doctor has ever faced. Created by the mad scientist Davros during the final years of a thousand-year war, the Daleks are cybernetic hybrids genetically modified and integrated within a tank-like robotic mechanical shell, made from the original inhabitants of the planet Skaro, the Kaleds. Having every emotion genetically stripped from them except for hate, The Daleks turned against their creators to pretty much become the Nazis of space, by setting out to purge the Universe of all non-Dalek life.
In what is promised to be an "epic Dalek adventure," "Asylum of the Daleks" is also said to feature “every Dalek ever” including legendary Special Weapons Daleks, which haven’t been seen since the late '80s. The series 7 opener kicks off with the Doctor being captured by his old foes and taken to the long thought destroyed Dalek home-world, Skaro, where he is tasked with entering a place that even terrify the Daleks - The Asylum, a snow covered planetary prison that confines the most disturbed and insane of the Dalek race.
If that wasn’t enough for one Time Lord to shoulder, the Doctor must also save the fractured relationship of his closest friends (and In-Laws) Amy and Rory before it’s too late. "Asylum of the Daleks" was recently screened at BFI Southbank on August 14th, and will also be a feature at the MediaGuardian Edinburgh International Television Festival this week.
