As Doctor Who heads towards the end of season 10, the death of a major character has been teased. Its no secret that the current Doctor, Peter Capaldi, and Doctor Who showrunner, Steven Moffat, will both leave the show after the 2017 Christmas special. Michelle Gomez, who plays Missy, has also said she will be leaving. Now, the synopsis for season 10, episode 11- the first of the two-part finale - teases a death, and it looks to be the fault of the Doctor.
Fans have been expecting something big for the finale; Moffat has been teasing that Capaldi's regeneration is different to anything the show has done before, and he has also said that the season 10 finale is a 'bloodbath.' The new synopsis suggests that the Doctor will come to regret a snap decision that results in a loss of life.

Friendship drives the Doctor into the rashest decision of his life. The guesses begin, and Missy seems a logical choice, given Gomez's imminent departure and the fact that she is, indeed, under the Doctor's protection. However, right now, no future on the show is confirmed for Pearl Mackie, as the newest companion, Bill Potts. In fact, it is strongly rumored that incoming showrunner, Chris Chibnall, wants to start with an entirely clean slate; new Doctor, new companion, new direction for the show. The friendship between the wise Time Lord and the naive Bill has been one of season 10's highlights, and its obvious how much the Doctor cares for Bill. Having lost Clara already, if he now loses Bill through his own course of actions, that could be devastating for him. Likewise, if he loses Missy - someone he's come to care about and who he's trying to make good, that too could impact upon him greatly.
Previously, Gomez has teased that something "really wrong" will happen in this season, and thus far it hasn't, so we can assume that something of that nature is still to come. Maybe, in trying to redeem his mistake, the Doctor ends up saving Missy and sacrificing Bill? Also still to come is the long-awaited return of The Master, played by John Sim, and the Mondasian Cybermen, who feature in the finale at Capaldi's request. Whatever is set to transpire, you can guarantee it's going to be an epic two-part finale. With the thirteenth Doctor now cast, we could be meeting Capaldi's replacement sooner, rather than later.
