Doctor Who fan Alicia Neptune rescores the Fourth Doctor and Sarah Jane Smith's heartbreaking farewell from 'The Hand of Fear' with new music. The moment is taken from the end of the 1976 story from season 14 of the classic series. Season 14 starred Tom Baker as the fourth incarnation of the Doctor, with Elizabeth Sladen playing companion Sarah Jane Smith in the season's first two stories.

By the conclusion of the classic story 'The Hand of Fear', the Doctor and Sarah Jane's relationship is strained, with the companion becoming tired of the troubles of time traveling and deciding to pack her things and leave. At the same time, the Doctor receives a telepathic message from Gallifrey, summoning him home. The news upsets Sarah despite her preparing to leave, and the Doctor returns her to Earth, saying their farewells as he promises to never forget her, ending her 3 years as a regular character. Though Baker continues to reprise his role, Sladen sadly passed away in 2011 after reprising her role numerous times in the classic and revived series, as well as in her own spin-off, The Sarah Jane Adventures. The Fourth Doctor and Sarah Jane are beloved parts of the classic era, and now one fan has decided to revisit the pair's farewell with a new twist.

Doctor Who fan Alicia Neptune posted a video on her Twitter account that featured the classic farewell scene, but rescored it with an emotional piece of music. The fan used the unreleased track 'Just Don't', composed by Murray Gold for series four of the revived series and featured in episodes such as 'Midnight'. Combining the scene with the new track makes the scene even more heartbreaking and ominous, with Neptune later stating she was surprised how well it fit. Check out the edited clip below.

Doctor Who fans bid farewell to Sarah Jane Smith in April 2020, following online community rewatches of the season 4 episodes 'The Stolen Earth' and 'Journey's End' during lockdowns placed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Then-former showrunner Russell T Davies penned the story 'Farewell Sarah Jane', which saw numerous characters gather to pay their respect to Sarah Jane. Narrated by Doctor Who audio adventures star Jacob Dudman, the webcast saw Tommy Knight, Daniel Anthony, Anjli Mohindra, Mina Anwar, Katy Manning, and Sophie Aldred reprise their roles in remotely filmed segments.

With the Fourth Doctor and Sarah Jane's farewell coming suddenly at the end of 'The Hand of Fear', the original moment was already an emotional scene, but Alicia Neptune's edit elevates it. The track not only adds a sad, somber tone to the scene but also a foreboding element for the Doctor's summon back to Gallifrey. With Sladen's Sarah Jane being a beloved companion, most fans are likely to be hit hard emotionally by this revisited Doctor Who moment.
