When it comes to Doctor Who, there have been many fascinating groups and dynamics. Although fans agree that the Doctor's relationships with their companions have proven the most memorable, there have also been times where the minor characters have shared some hilarious moments too (such as the companions' mothers arguing with the eponymous Timelord).

However, one groundbreaking episode involving the companions was "Journey's End," where viewers saw several of the minor characters join forces with the companions to help defeat the Doctor's deadliest foes, the Daleks. As this formula proved to be quite successful and iconic, some fans have wondered what other partnerships could've worked too.

Jackie Tyler, Francine Jones & Sylvia Noble

Although they wouldn't have had a lot of storylines together, much hilarity would have enthused if the writers managed to get Jackie Tyler (Camille Coduri), Francine Jones (Roxanne Beckford), and Sylvia Noble (Jacqueline King) together. Since they are all parents of the Doctor companions, it would have been great to see these three women meet up and discuss the sort of adventures their children would get up to.

As they had all experienced the stress and worry of not knowing where their children were, it could have become a support group of sorts. However, that doesn't mean they would have got on at all times. It would have been hilarious to see them argue over the scariest aliens they came face to face with or argue about which of their children changed the Timelord the most. Hopefully, fans will see some of Doctor Who's best parents meet up again in the prose stories.

Clara Oswald & Sarah Jane Smith

Since Elisabeth Sladen sadly passed away in 2011, Jenna Coleman's character didn't get the chance to meet the iconic Sarah Jane Smith. However, that hasn't stopped fans from imagining what a great partnership this duo could have formed.

Clara and Sarah Jane certainly had a lot in common. Since Clara went to university to become an English teacher and Sarah Jane a journalist, it's likely they studied similar subjects and had similar interests. They also had a penchant for mysteries and a love for traveling. With their experiences with the Doctor and them helping take down some of the most terrifying villains, fans would have been entertained for hours.

Graham O'Brien & Wilfred Mott

With both their grandchildren going off to explore the universe with the Doctor and having their own time-traveling experiences, Graham O'Brien (Bradley Walsh) and Wilfred Mott (Bernard Cribbins) could have struck up a friendship of sorts.

This would have been really amazing to see, since it became obvious that both Graham and Wilfred seemed particularly lonely when they lost their wives. It would have also delighted fans to see Wilfred invite Graham to go stargazing with him and the two share tales about the aliens they had seen. Wilfred would have been particularly ecstatic to hear how Graham had met some famous astronomers, such as Tycho Brae and Johannes Kepler.

Rose Tyler & River Song

With one being the Doctor's wife and the other a former partner, some fans might believe that River Song (Alex Kingston) and Rose Tyler (Billie Piper) would clash. While this would have likely been the case for a small amount of time, the two women would have got over that quickly since there were always bigger forces at play.

As both River and Rose have continuously put their life and their happiness on the line, they could have bonded over the consequences they faced while loving the Doctor. Viewers could have also seen them team up to investigate and correct any paradoxes since Rose had worked in the parallel Torchwood for some time.

John Simm's Master & Sacha Dhawan's Master

Both sinister and expert manipulators, there would be nothing more terrifying for the Doctor than to face another two versions of the Master. Although this ended in disaster for the last two incarnations since Michelle Gomez's version and John Simm's ended up killing each other, the Master could have actually defeated the Doctor if these two had put their minds together.

Considering how Simm's Master had almost wiped out humanity with the Toclafane and Sacha Dhawan's has created the CyberMasters, these evil geniuses could have created another formidable monster that could be tougher than any villain the Doctor had ever faced. Since both Dhawan and Simm's Masters are so smug and calculating, it would have likely led to some unpredictable stories.

Bill Potts & Clara Oswald

Although Clara Oswald and Bill Potts (Pearl Mackie) didn't get the chance to meet, this duo would have had an interesting relationship. With both women having a profound effect on Twelve's (Peter Capaldi) life, the two would have joined forces to make sure that the Timelord didn't wander down a dark path.

Clara would have also understood Bill's grief over losing a parent since she too had lost her mother at a young age. As both Clara and Bill were also quite selfless and caring individuals, this friendship would have been so wholesome to watch.

Martha Jones & Yasmin Khan

When one of the Doctor's companions decides they will take up the Timelord's offer to explore the universe, some of them struggle to return to the life they knew. This had proven to be the case for both Martha Jones (Freema Agyeman) and Yasmin Khan (Mandip Gill), who had trouble adjusting to their lives as a doctor and a police officer because of all the things they experienced.

While Martha eventually called time on her travels in the Tardis, Yasmin doesn't seem ready to go back to reality just yet. However, that doesn't mean that there's not going to be a time where she won't. If this does prove the case, Yasmin might try and contact Martha for some advice on when she knew it was time to stop. It's not completely out of the question since the duo has met in the comics.

Amy Pond & Twelfth Doctor

While they were certainly opposites of each other, there would have been some great storylines if the writers had Amy Pond (Karen Gillan in one of her best roles) paired up with the Twelfth Doctor. As both their tenures have proven, Amy and Twelve can be quite stubborn and argumentative when they want to be - whether it was over a person's life or their loved ones' safety.

However, they probably would have fought over the slightest things, such as what places to visit or what they should do if they find themselves in trouble. It would have been quite amusing to hear remarks of how Amy missed the old Doctor and his rules.

Rose Tyler & Eleventh Doctor

A split image of Rose Tyler and Eleventh Doctor in Doctor Who

Although Rose Tyler and the Tenth Doctor (David Tennant) will forever be one of the best Tardis teams on Doctor Who, there is something quite intriguing about a team-up between Rose and Eleven (Matt Smith).

Since Smith and Piper are friends in real life and have worked well together on projects before, fans are certain that the duo could have provided some entertaining storylines. As "Let's Kill Hitler" showed, Eleven still had some guilt over the impact he had on Rose's life so it wouldn't have been surprising if he had decided to go back in time and reminisce about their travels. They could have even shared a brief conversation like Ten and Rose had in "The End of Time."

Rory Williams & Martha Jones

A split image of Rory Williams and Martha Jones in Doctor Who

It might seem like the strangest partnership, but if fans take a closer look at both their arcs, they would see that Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill) and Martha have quite a lot in common. They were both companions of the Doctor, they had both worked in the medical sector, and they, at one point, decided to stop traveling for a while so they could return to reality.

Since Martha has featured on other companions' tenures, it would have been fascinating to have seen her be involved in episodes like "The Power Of Three" and helping to solve the case over the mysterious cubes. It would have also been quite hilarious to see Martha and Rory discuss their extraterrestrial experiences while they were working or checking up on patients. It's just another opportunity missed.
