A magical marauder has chanced upon a secret door to Doctor Strange’s magical forge, the Sanctum Machina, and is making off with sorcerous weapons and arcane treasures from his remote workshop, in Marvel Comics’ Dr. Strange: Surgeon Supreme. When Stephen Strange discovers there’s been a heist of wondrous relics from his otherworldly workshop, the sorcerer must track down the elusive thief before the mystical artifacts are sold to the highest bidder on the black market of magic. But the good doctor has rounds to make in his residency at McCarthy Medical Institute, and a demon-in-disguise just hit the operating table in the latest Doctor Strange: Surgeon Supreme.
When Doctor Strange lost his connection to the occult during “The Last Days of Magic” story arc from writer Jason Aaron, the sorcerer came to rely upon a collection of legendary weapons from his vaults, until they too waned and were depleted of magical power. Leaving Earth for furthest reaches of outer space, in search of undiscovered magic hiding in the stars, Strange learned to craft supernatural artifacts with the aid of Asgardian magic from a dwarf of Nidavellir - the forge-world where the mighty hammer of Thor, Mjolnir was created. In his own metaphysical workshop, the Sanctum Machina, Doctor Strange fashions sorcerous weapons, magical tools, and wondrous items to augment his newly-restored powers of mysticism.
When relics of power turn up in the hands of supervillains, it’s a case of missing magic and Doctor Strange suspects someone, or something, has been looting his workshop and selling mystical artifacts on the black market. After a massive heist at his Sanctum Machina, the sorcerer must hunt down the culprits before they can weaponize the plunder and mass-produce an arsenal from Strange’s treasures. However, the preoccupied physician is jeopardizing his surgery residence at McCarthy Medical Institute and his extraplanar activities are impacting the hospital and its patients. In the latest Doctor Strange: Surgeon Supreme, the sorcerer-turned-sawbones must balance his hectic caseload in the infirmary while wearing the awesome mantle of the Master of the Mystic Arts.
Doctor Strange’s wondrous workshop and forge, Sanctum Machina contains, or rather, contained, “the greatest treasure trove of magical implements, tools, and elements in the Known Realms,” and in the clutches of villains could prove cataclysmic. In the midst of Strange’s investigations into the infiltration of his forge, the doctor is summoned to surgery to perform an emergency procedure on a mystery patient. When the unidentifiable invalid’s disturbing ruse is unveiled, and the John Doe reveals itself to be an abhorrent demon under a glamour spell to cloak its appearance, the surgeon’s hands spring the supernatural trap. With a demonic time-bomb strapped to the operating table and sneak thieves ransacking his magical storehouse, the Surgeon Supreme’s shift is surely over, in the latest Doctor Strange story arc from Marvel Comics.
