Spider-Man and. Doctor Strange are two heroes that don't interact with each other very often despite them sharing a co-creator in Steve Ditko. This makes sense because they exist on almost opposite ends of the superhero spectrum; Spider-Man is a street hero who has to balance ordinary life problems with capturing costumed criminals, while Dr. Strange regularly deals with magical threats so powerful only he can manage them. But when these two heroes do end up working together it's a sight to behold. One of their most memorable (and scary) team-ups revolved around Dr. Strange helping Peter Parker escape from a world of Supernatural spider-people more interested in eating him than fighting crime with him.

Spider-Man: Fever by Brendan McCarthy and Steve Cook, is a surreal 3-issue miniseries released in 2010 that chronicles Spider-Man's journey into the world of the Arachnix, a tribe of demonic spider-people who want nothing more than to feed on tasty human souls just like Peter's. The comic begins with two seemingly unrelated plot threads as Dr. Strange has acquired a mystical book once owned by real-life mystic Aleister Crowley, while Spider-Man is busy fighting the Vulture. However it turns out that Crowley's book was booby-trapped, and as soon as Strange opens it he creates a portal into the world of the Arachnix, and from this portal one of the spiders is able to drag an injured Peter's soul into their web. Naturally, Strange decides to venture into the unknown to rescue him.

The Arachnix are fully prepared to eat Peter, but first, they need to answer an important question: is he spider, or man? The Arachnix decide to give Peter a test to decide his true nature. The Arachnix take him to the "insect gate" where Peter is told he must catch the mystical "Sorrowfly." If Spider-Man fails, he is a human and will be eaten, but if he catches it, he is a spider and the fly will die instead. At the same time, Dr. Strange embarks on his own journey to locate the Arachnix lair.

Peter Parker Spider

Peter eventually does find the Sorrowfly, and here he finds out that the "fly" is actually a human named Victor who was transformed into a fly and trapped here years ago. It's also revealed here that the fly was also indirectly responsible for sending the spider that gave Spider-Man his powers. It's after this that Dr. Strange arrives at the Arachnix dimension, and he devises a plan to save Spider-Man and Victor without anyone being sacrificed to the spiders. First Strange lifts the curse on Victor, turning him back to a human. Then he creates a fake, poisonous Sorrowfly with magic and has Spider-Man deliver the fake to the Arachnix leader. When the Arachnix fall for the trick their entire realm starts to collapse, and our heroes escape with their lives.

Back in their proper dimension, the returning heroes are able to celebrate their victory. In the aftermath of their adventure, Spider-Man realizes something odd about the sorcerer supreme - that his hand gestures for using magic are identical to how Spider-Man uses his web-shooters! Even Doctor Strange has to admit it's a very strange coincidence.
