Warning! Spoilers for Death of Doctor Strange and Strange #1 by Marvel Comics

Marvel Comics has revealed which character will take over the mantle of Sorcerer Supreme following the death of Doctor Strange. On Tuesday, Marvel announced Clea Strange will be taking over the mantle in a brand new series titled Strange from Jed MacKay (Moon Knight) and Marcelo Ferreira (Amazing Spider-Man). Clea will be forced to protect the Earth against magical threats while trying to hold onto the late Stephen Strange.

Clea's history in the comics has always been closely tied to Doctor Strange. The magic user made her first cameo appearance in Strange Tales #126 by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko just a year after the original Sorcerer Supreme appeared. The character is the daughter of one of Dormmamu's closest followers and comes from the Dark Dimension. After Doctor Strange helped free her from Dormammu, the pair fell in love and she has become a key part of his adventures. Eventually becoming the Sorceress Supreme of the Dark Dimension, Clea had been missing in recent Marvel Comics stories but returned in the current The Death of Doctor Strange arc.

Marvel Comics New Sorcerer Supreme

Check out the official synopsis of the series from Marvel.com that shares Clea will be longing to bring back Doctor Strange from the dead as she becomes the new protector of Earth.

Haunted by her recently returned memories, Clea longs to bring Stephen Strange back from the dead! But when a mysterious group attacks the magical realm, Clea, now the sole protector of Earth against magical threats must rise to the duties of Sorcerer Supreme. Don’t miss the shocking twists, new villains, and unbelievable magical feats as Clea takes Marvel magic to places it’s never gone before!

MacKay shared that Clea is going to have her work cut out for her as she becomes the new Sorcerer Supreme - hinting at a new villain named the Harvestman.

"After the apocalyptic events of The Death of Doctor Strange, there's a new Sorcerer Supreme in residence at 177A Bleecker Street, and a new Doctor Strange- Clea Strange. And she's got her work cut out for her- when she's not fighting off the magical gangsters of the Blasphemy Syndicate, or battling undead super-monsters, she's going after what's hers: the late Stephen Strange. Clea is of the Faltine, that race of Warlords and conquerors, and like her relatives Dormammu and Umar, she will not be thwarted in her desires, not even by the mysterious Harvestman standing in her way.

Given her connection to Doctor Strange and her expertise in magic, Clea is about as perfect of a choice as Marvel's new Sorcerer Supreme that can be made. Readers will learn more about the new Sorcerer Supreme when Strange #1 arrives in comic book stores on March 2nd, 2022.
