Warning: The following article contains minor spoilers for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Elizabeth Olsen reveals that she enjoyed Wanda's newfound confidence in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. After first being introduced back in Avengers: Age of Ultron in 2015, Olsen's Wanda has come to be an integral part of the MCU. After playing an important role in both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, Wanda got her own show on Disney+ last year, the critically-acclaimed WandaVision.

Throughout WandaVision, Olsen's character is forced to confront and work through her grief following the death of Vision (Paul Bettany), her lover. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness picks up Wanda's story following the events of WandaVision and sees the character butt heads with Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Wong (Benedict Wong) over her desire to reunite with her two children. Directed by Sam Raimi, who is best known for directing Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man trilogy, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which was released last Friday, has earned mostly positive reviews from critics, with many praising Olsen's performance.

In a new interview with Harper's Bazaar, Olsen digs into the version of Wanda that appears in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and reveals that she really enjoyed the character's newfound confidence and strength. Olsen explains that, after Wanda's constant struggling in previous films, it was refreshing to play her as someone who now "knows exactly what she wants." Check out Olsen's full comment below:

“It was so fun for me because all these years I’ve been playing a character who is struggling; now, she has clarity for the first time – she knows exactly what she wants, and she doesn’t want to apologise for it. I think there’s a womanliness that comes with that: a strength in feeling completely entitled.”

Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

From her introduction in Avengers: Age of Ultron and her subsequent MCU appearances, Wanda is frequently in a state of struggle, with various characters (including fellow Avengers) often trying to exert influence on her. Doctor Strange 2 sees Wanda set her sights on a goal – reuniting with her children in a parallel universe – and pursue that goal, even if it means hurting others in the process. Although the version of Wanda seen in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is largely presented as an antagonist for much of the film, the character is undeniably feeling more confident and assertive than ever before.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Olsen's Wanda, but the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness certainly leave the door wide open for the character to return again in the future. Although not a central focus of earlier Avengers movies, Wanda has come to be one of the most interesting and complex characters in the MCU, with the character undergoing a drastic transformation over the course of several movies. It's not clear when Wanda - or the Scarlet Witch - will be seen next but, for now, audiences can experience Olsen's character at her most confident in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which is now playing in theaters.
