Warning: Contains major Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness spoilers

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness writer Michael Waldron addresses if Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch dies in the film's final act. Following the events of WandaVision, Wanda has embraced the power of the Darkhold, a magical book of immense dark power, and become the Scarlet Witch. However, by the end of her time in Doctor Strange 2, her actions seemingly led to her own demise.

To resurrect the children she briefly had, Wanda searches for the inter-dimensional child America Chavez to steal her multiversal powers. After battling Doctor Strange and Wong, her children from an alternate universe ultimately get a glimpse of who she truly is, and they fear her. Wanda realizes that she has become the danger that she wished to protect her children from and collapses her throne on herself, seemingly killing her.

In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, Waldron addresses Wanda's fate at the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. When asked if audiences will see Wanda again, the writer teases, "Well, it's Wanda versus a giant mountain. Who do you think would win?" He later clarifies that her fate is still undetermined, but claims Wanda redeemed herself in the end with her selfless action. Read Waldron's response below:

Yeah, it remains to be seen. I think, as Stephen said, she did the right thing in the end. I think she leaves this movie not as the Scarlet Witch, but as Wanda. And I do think that's a heartening final sentiment.

Although Waldron has not provided details on whether Wanda survived, he confirmed the film's resolution and Wanda's catharsis. When she managed to finally step over into Earth-838 and allowed her children to truly see the real her, they were frightened and cowered behind their universe's mother. Wanda realized that she had become what she feared all along. Waldron explains that the decision to destroy her throne and seemingly kill herself was made the Wanda Maximoff fans grew to love throughout her previous years in the MCU, rather than the Scarlet Witch under the Darkhold's power.

Wanda's untimely "death" during Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness's ending is marked by a red explosion in the descending rubble of Mount Wundagore. This is similar to the actual death of Hela in Thor: Ragnarok, where a green burst of energy marked her demise, but as Waldron alluded to, Wanda has proven she is far more powerful than the peak of a mountain. She nearly single-handedly killed Thanos (Josh Brolin), a Titan that could have killed Thor (Chris Hemsworth) when he had the chance. However, if Wanda wanted to die, if she truly believed that she was so misguided and wished to save the universe from the Scarlet Witch, then perhaps the mountain was sufficient enough for her sacrifice.
