A new clip from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness reveals a new monster joining the fray. The film, which is coming to theaters on May 6, 2022, will be the first feature-length Marvel project of 2022 after the success of 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home, which had a record-breaking box office run that landed it at #3 on the chart of the highest-grossing domestic films of all time. The film, which is a more horror-inflected story, is directed by Sam Raimi making his first film for the MCU, though he has previously dabbled in Marvel comics with his iconic Spider-Man trilogy that began in 2002.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will follow Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and the consequences of the events of No Way Home in which the multiverse began to break open. A new villain will emerge from the splintered universe as Strange faces a variety of multiversal challenges, including an evil version of himself. In order to battle these peculiar new foes, he will enlist old friends Wong (Benedict Wong) and Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen), the latter of whom was last seen on the Disney+ series WandaVision, along with new character America Chavez, played by Xochitl Gomez.

Now, Marvel Studios has shared a new 30-second ad spot for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. After some familiar footage from previous teases, including Doctor Strange enlisting Wanda's help, the tease shows off a brand new scene from the movie. In a tantalizing shot, it shows Wanda and Wong fighting on the same side as a new CGI monster who hasn't been seen in the MCU before. Check out the teaser below:

A monster isn’t necessarily an uncommon sight in the MCU. Indeed, just in Phase 4, several CGI creatures have menaced various Marvel heroes. The most prominent example would certainly be the Deviants, the mutant creatures from which the Eternals have sworn to protect the Earth. However, Moon Knight episode 1, which premiered this past Wednesday, also featured two monstrous creatures drawn straight from Egyptian mythology. However, the creature depicted in this clip from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness doesn’t seem to belong to either of those two categories. Whether this is a new creature born from the world that already exists or something that has come from an alternate timeline along the multiverse remains an unknown for the time being.

Still, it’s an extremely unusual alliance that is mightily intriguing, though - especially with Scarlet Witch involved. Speculation has run rampant about Wanda Maximoff's role in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and while this clip certainly makes it appear as if she will end up on the side of Wong and Strange, how that comes to be remains to be seen. As Marvel usually does, it's possible they're hiding the true villain of the Doctor Strange sequel and with their trailers being particularly deceptive, this latest clip is more proof that not everything is as it seems.
