A detail in one quick shot in one of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' TV spots links Scarlet Witch to the Eternals. The Marvel Cinematic Universe continues its expansion with Phase 4, which is not only introducing new characters and events but it’s also exploring new concepts, the main one so far being the multiverse. The MCU teased the dangers of it in Loki and gave the audience a taste of the chaos it can unleash in Spider-Man: No Way Home, but its biggest multiverse adventure so far will be Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Set a couple of months after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, in which Peter Parker (Tom Holland) and Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) opened the gates to the multiverse and closed them sometime later by making everyone forget Peter Parker, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will see the Sorcerer dealing with the consequences of this multiversal mess. With the help of old friends – like Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Wong (Benedict Wong) – and new allies, like America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez), Strange will travel into the multiverse to face a mysterious new adversary, while also coming across some of his and Scarlet Witch’s variants.

The trailers for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness have teased the tone of the story, the Strange and Scarlet Witch variants that will be introduced, and the mysterious places they will travel to through the multiverse, and as expected from an MCU movie, there are already various hidden details that connect Doctor Strange’s new movie to previous MCU ones. In the TV spot Experience, for example, Scarlet Witch appears in a sort of castle or dungeon, and what’s interesting about this specific shot are the patterns on the wall behind her, which look very similar to those found in the Eternals’ Domo, their suits, and Olympia/World Forge.

Doctor Strange 2 Eternals Scarlet Witch

The Eternals were introduced in the movie of the same name and they are a group of synthetic beings created by the Celestial Arishem. The Eternals believed for centuries that they came from a planet called Olympia, but they were actually created in the World Forge. Through Sersi, the audience got a look at the World Forge, which is covered in circular patterns just like the ones in the Eternals’ suits, and even the Domo seems to have a similar pattern on the outside. While it’s unlikely the Eternals will show up in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, as half the team was taken by Arishem and the rest are traveling through space, this pattern shows the extent of the Eternals’ influence and impact on humanity. The Eternals helped humans evolve but weren’t allowed to interfere in their conflicts, so pretty much like hieroglyphics in pyramids, these patterns in the temple or wherever Scarlet Witch is at that moment could be a stamp of the Eternals’ role in human history.

The Eternals are the oldest team in the MCU, but as they have just been introduced, there will surely be various nods to their history on Earth in future MCU movies, including Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. As mentioned above, it’s unlikely any of the Eternals will show up in Strange’s second solo movie, but that doesn’t mean that their legacy can’t be referenced, even if subtly, like the patterns on the wall of an unspecified location.
