The cast of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness could be growing with the addition of Loki’s Sylvie and Mobius M. Mobius, but what would their appearance in this particular movie mean for the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s multiverse of madness? With the Infinity Saga now over, Thanos defeated, the Infinity Stones back where they belong, and the “balance of the universe” restored, the MCU is finally moving forward with new stories, events, and more complex concepts, as is that of the multiverse. The MCU’s Phase 4 is focusing heavily on the multiverse and its potential dangers, and thanks to Loki, the MCU heroes will now have to deal with the multiverse of madness.

Phase 4 is covering both TV shows and movies, and the multiverse has already been addressed (though in very different ways) in the series WandaVision and Loki, with the latter showing exactly how the multiversal madness begins. The multiverse and its many dangers will be further explored in Spider-Man: No Way Home, but there’s another movie in the MCU’s near future that will fully focus on it and everything that comes with it: Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The second Doctor Strange solo movie will see the title sorcerer joined by Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and reuniting with characters like Wong (Benedict Wong), Christine Palmer (Rachel McAdams), and Karl Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor), but it might also see a small Loki reunion with the addition of Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) and Mobius M. Mobius (Owen Wilson).

The latest rumor around Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness says that Sylvie and Mobius will return in it, though how big or small their roles would be is unknown. Given that Tom Hiddleston is also rumored to return in Doctor Strange 2, it’s not that crazy that his variant and his TVA (Time Variance Authority) friend would show up as well. At the end of Loki season 1, Loki and Sylvie met He Who Remains (Jonathan Majors), a variant of Kang the Conqueror who funded the TVA and oversaw the timeline. Sylvie ended up killing He Who Remains, unleashing the multiverse of madness and sending Loki to a timeline where Mobius, who was an ally to him and Sylvie, had forgotten about him, leaving the God of Mischief imprisoned at the TVA but not before he made the frightening discovery that a new Kang variant, now Kang the Conqueror, is now in charge of the TVA.

Loki Mobius M Mobius and Sylvie

Plot details about Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness are unknown, but it could see the title character trying to figure out what caused the multiverse to go haywire, more so after he messed with time and space in Spider-Man: No Way Home. This quest could lead him to Sylvie, the one responsible for the multiverse of madness, and who could be a valuable ally to Strange if he wants to restore some balance. As for Mobius, his role is a bit tricky to predict, as the last time viewers saw him he wasn’t the same Mobius they met in previous episodes, so the one in Doctor Strange 2 could either be this “new” Mobius or the one who went through a lot alongside Loki and Sylvie. However, the potential involvement of Sylvie and Mobius in Doctor Strange 2 also suggests that a Kang variant will make an appearance, even if a very brief one, as he’s a key player in the whole multiverse game.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is on its way to becoming one if not the most important movie in the MCU’s Phase 4, as it will explore the multiverse in ways that previous movies and TV shows haven’t, and it will surely have a big impact in the future of the MCU regardless of whether Strange and his allies are able to fix it or not. If Sylvie and Mobius appear in it, it will also make the wait for Loki season 2 less tedious, allowing fans to continue their stories before a proper return in the new season.
