Doctor Strange is coming back with his second solo movie, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which will also be the introduction of a character who is as powerful as an Infinity Stone. The first three phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe were all about the Infinity Stones and Thanos’ quest to acquire them so he could “bring balance to the universe”, but with the Stones back in their respective places in time and space and Thanos defeated, Phase 4 is exploring a much bigger and complex concept that can unleash even more chaos: the multiverse.

The MCU’s Phase 4 is covering TV shows and movies, and through these, it has been exploring the dangers of the multiverse in different ways. Its most recent multiversal adventure was Spider-Man: No Way Home, where a botched spell from Doctor Strange opened the gates of the multiverse. This allowed villains from past Spider-Man movies to cross over to the MCU, and these events will directly impact the next MCU movie in line: Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Directed by Sam Raimi, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will follow up the events of Loki and Spider-Man: No Way Home as both have heavily messed with the fabric of space and time, and will see Stephen Strange unleashing unspeakable evil. Doctor Strange 2 will reunite viewers with Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen), Baron Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor), and Christine Palmer (Rachel McAdams), and will introduce America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez), best known as Miss America. America’s role in Doctor Strange 2 remains unknown and she was briefly seen in the first teaser, but looking at her powers in the comic books, she’s going to be a character as powerful as an Infinity Stone, which means she could be key in helping Strange in this new adventure.

America Chavez walks into a room in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

America Chavez was raised in the Utopian Parallel, a reality out of time and in the presence of the being known as the Demiurge. Her powers seem to have been inherited or absorbed from the Demiurge's ambient magical presence, and after the Utopian Parallel was threatened and her mothers sacrificed themselves to save it, America ran away and traveled across different realities, adopting the mantle of Miss America and serving as a superhero. Along with superhuman strength and durability, America’s powers include kicking open star-shaped holes in reality so she (and her companions) can travel through the multiverse, she can make an enemy burst into tiny star fragments with a punch, and she can move at superhuman speeds. These powers make her like the Tesseract/Space Tone in terms of movement, but America goes beyond with the benefit of tearing through the universe and also traveling across individual universes.

With powers like these that directly link her to the multiverse and the cosmic and magic sides of the MCU, Doctor Strange 2 surely won’t be the only time viewers will see America Chavez, who will hopefully get to display her powers to help Doctor Strange fix the multiversal mess. America Chavez's future beyond Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is unknown, but hopefully, she will return in a bigger role in future phases of the MCU so her origins and powers can be fully explored, as she’s a powerful and exciting addition to this ever-expanding universe.
