With little more than a month to go before its release, the next film in the ever-expanding Marvel superhero universe will introduce its audiences to the mystical world of Doctor Strange. The marketing campaign has really been kicked into full gear lately with the release of a new trailer, interviews with Kevin Feige about the film, and amazing character motion posters featuring both allies and foes of the Sorcerer Supreme.

Now a new motion poster featuring Benedict Cumberbatch's titular character has been released, showing Doctor Strange with the glowing Eye of Agamotto hanging from his neck as he leaps forward and the image transitions into kaleidoscopic images of snowy mountains and cities that soon to merge into a visual image that would seem appropriate in a Salvador Dali painting.

The film tells the story of Dr. Stephen Strange, an arrogant neurosurgeon who gets a reality check when he is involved in a near-fatal car crash that leaves his hands crippled. Desperate to maintain his status as one of the best neurosurgeons in the world, he travels the world seeking a cure until he finds himself in Nepal. It is there that he meets a powerful sorcerer named the Ancient One, who sees his destiny as being greater than he can imagine. He is taught the art of mysticism, which will enable him to save the world from an inter-dimensional threat looming on the horizon.

While the Marvel movies have so far been rooted in science fiction and physical threats, Doctor Strange will open up the mystic side of the universe in much the same way that Guardians of the Galaxy opened up the cosmic side. That means the threats our hero will be facing won't just be physical; they'll be inter-dimensional.

The landscape-twisting visuals of the trailers have drawn comparisons to Christopher Nolan's Inception, and it seems like this is one Marvel movie that might be best appreciated in IMAX. Of course, cool visuals aren't worth much unless they're attached to an engaging story, but what we've seen of Doctor Strange so far looks very promising.
