Marvel Studios’ Phase 3 will further explore the cosmic side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which has been briefly visited and teased in previous movies, most recently Ant-Man, where we followed Scott Lang into the Quantum Realm/Microverse.
After the highly successful Captain America: Civil War, Phase 3 will continue in November with the introduction of the Sorcerer Supreme in Doctor Strange, taking the audience to dimensions that haven’t been explored in the MCU before. This movie also promises to be a visual delight, having been described by those involved as “Marvel’s Fantasia” and with Stan Lee’s seal of approval, fans are in for a mind-bending ride. With the release date fast approaching, Marvel has been sharing images from the movie offering a closer look to the characters.
A new image courtesy of Yahoo! Movies shows Benedict Cumberbatch in full Doctor Strange costume with a few battle-scars here and there, standing in an ornate room with broken glass. Judging by the decoration and style of the set, the place could be the Sanctum Sanctorum, Strange’s residence. In the second trailer there’s a brief glimpse at Strange using his magic in a battle against villain Kaecilius (Mads Mikkelsen) inside the Sanctum Sanctorum, so it’s possible that this is a still from that particular battle. Take a look:
Doctor Strange will introduce renowned neurosurgeon Stephen Strange, who after a horrific car accident that shatters his hands and leaves him unable to keep performing surgery, goes on a journey to find ways to heal. He encounters the Ancient One, who after a few obstacles to prove Strange is worthy of learning the mystic arts, agrees to be his mentor as he becomes the Sorcerer Supreme.
Also starring are Tilda Swinton as the Ancient One, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Baron Mordo, Benedict Wong as Wong, and Rachel McAdams as night nurse Christine Palmer. As the premiere date approaches and more images and trailers are released, more rumors about possible appearances surface. One of the latest rumors says Doctor Strange will introduce Jericho Drumm, a.k.a Brother Voodoo, another powerful sorcerer with various mystical and quasi-physical powers.
In addition to the Inception-style visuals and mind-bending effects the movie will have, it will also be packed with action – though a different kind of action than that we have seen in previous Marvel movies, as Strange will bring magic to the mix.
