Warning! Spoilers ahead for Strange Academy #13

In Marvel Comics' new issue of Strange Academy, one of Doctor Strange's students is already doing a better job than he is when it comes to defeating magical threats for good. Not only is Emily Bright immensely powerful (and may even be a prophesied Chosen One), she's also incredibly compassionate wielding an intense optimism few others possess. While Doctor Strange may be the Sorcerer Supreme, this new issue sees Emily Bright neutralizing one of his biggest threats with a much better solution, making sure he'll never return to plague the world of magic ever again.

In previous issues of Strange Academy from writer Skottie Young and artist Humberto Ramos, Emily Bright has continually been drawn to a mysterious being locked in Doctor Strange's basement. Given her incredible magical powers (including the power to resurrect her classmate Doyle Dormammu whom Strange himself had given up on), it seemed as though she was at risk of being corrupted by this prisoner in the dark who kept trying to sympathize with Emily in order convince her to free him.

Surprisingly, Emily decides to grant the wish of Strange's prisoner despite his identity being revealed in Strange Academy #13 as the Imperator. A being who dedicated his life to studying science in order to remove all magic from the Marvel Universe, the Imperator is one of Doctor Strange's most formidable villains. However, Emily creates a much better solution rather than keeping him locked up to do nothing but plot an escape and a new crusade against magic itself. Instead, she uses the Stone of Shackles and her own power to create a prison of the mind for the Imperator, making it one where he believes he's free and with his family once more.

Had the Imperator remained trapped in his physical cell as Doctor Strange intended, the chance of him escaping to endanger the world of magic would have always been present. Case in point, what if he had succeeded in tricking some other student into actually freeing him rather than Emily? Furthermore, not only is Emily's solution more humane and recognizes the struggle of the Imperator's brutal childhood, but it also brings the chances of him breaking out way lower with the likelihood of him breaking free being virtually non-existent.

While she may still be young, Emily Bright is certainly proving herself to be a dynamic new magic-user in the Marvel Universe. As a result, one has to wonder if she might soon become the new Sorcerer Supreme given Doctor Strange's recent death as he was murdered by an unknown assailant. Either way, Emily's methods have absolutely been proven to be better than the late Sorcerer Supreme's in certain areas.
