Filming treks on during the production Joe and Anthony Russo’s Avengers: Infinity Warand a new released set photo by Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson shows the filmmakers working in a familiar setting from Derrickson's film.

The long and extended shoots for Infinity War, which is shooting back to back with the untitled Avengers 4, have had to juggle the incorporation of dozens of characters and settings from the MCU. The production recently began filming scenes featuring Doctor Strange, as Benedict Cumberbatch reported to the set for filming last week. To help tackle this tricky character, it appears the Russos called in the help of one of the key players behind Strange's origin story.

In a set photo posted by Scott Derrickson on his Twitter (see below), the three Marvel visionaries go over the details of a scene being shot in the Sorcerer Supreme's Sanctum Sanctorium, the mystical residency that Strange guards in New York City with his partner Wong (Benedict Wong). Being a familiar filming location for Derrickson, it appears that he's there to give either technical notes to the directors about the blocking of the space or story notes about the importance of the setting (or both).

Cumberbatch and Wong are not seen in the photo, but we know that both are on set, as seen in a behind-the-scenes photo shared yesterday by Robert Downey Jr. showing the two of them eating lunch with Mark Ruffalo and himself. The shoot currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia, a location where a number of Marvel productions have resided over the years. Doctor Strange was not one of these productions, however, so it is unclear whether the production team on Infinity War recreated the (future) Sorcerer Supreme's home-base or if they kept the set built after Doctor Strange and moved the production there, for these scenes.

It makes sense that we check in on Strange at some point in the Sanctum Sanctorium, as he will most likely not be an official Avenger at the outset of Infinity War. Thanks to the post-credits scene of Doctor Strange, we know that he'll have some sort of role in Thor: Ragnarokbut the extent of that role has yet to be disclosed.

It's also interesting to see the Russo brothers calling upon their peers to help them in this huge crossover event. If Derrickson is involved heavily enough that he can be called to set, there is most likely some extent of involvement from directors like James Gunn, Taika Waititi, and Ryan Coogler. This kind of working together will help continue to strengthen the bridge of continuity from the solo films to the massive Infinity War, something that Marvel has done so well in the past.
