While Wanda Maximoff (Scarlett Witch) will play a large role in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, it is unlikely that Doctor Strange 2 will include another major character from WandaVision: White Vision. Set to release on May 6, Multiverse of Madness will follow Doctor Strange and his team’s journey into the multiverse to face a mysterious enemy. Due to this, Doctor Strange 2 has many opportunities for cameos of both new and old characters. For example, rumors suggest that Captain Carter, Loki, Professor X, and Iron Man could all make appearances. In contrast, White Vision will probably not have a cameo in Multiverse of Madness.

Introduced in WandaVision, White Vision was a synthezoid built by the intelligence agency S.W.O.R.D., using pieces from the original Vision’s body. S.W.O.R.D. programmed White Vision to kill Wanda and the Westview Vision she created. However, Westview Vision was able to stop White Vision by restoring his memories of his previous life as Vision. Instead of trying to help Wanda fight the witch Agatha Harkness though, White Vision flew away and has not appeared in any Marvel projects since then.

This cliffhanger raises the question of if White Vision will return in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Given that the trailers suggest that Doctor Strange 2 will explore Wanda’s grief and desire to reunite her family, it seems plausible that White Vision could return. However, there are two key reasons White Vision should not have a cameo in Multiverse of Madness. Since White Vision is not the original Vision and could be better explored as a new character in another Marvel project, White Vision’s first appearance in the MCU since WandaVision should not be in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

The White Vision in WandaVision

First, White Vision should not be in Doctor Strange 2 because he is not the original Vision that fell in love with Wanda. Based on the “Ship of Theseus” debate between White Vision and Westview Vision, White Vision has been rebuilt too much to be the original Vision. He now has Vision’s memories, but he does not have his personality or emotions, explaining why he did not try to help Wanda. Due to this, Wanda also does not have any emotional connection to White Vision. If her goal in Doctor Strange 2 is to restore her family, she would want to save the original Vision, rather than his counterpart.

Second, it may be better for White Vision to return in a different Marvel movie that could thoroughly develop his character. Without the Mind Stone and with potentially harmful programming from S.W.O.R.D., White Vision will need to balance the new aspects of his personality and his old memories. Doctor Strange 2 will already have so many characters and cameos that there would probably not be time to fully explore White Vision’s struggle to understand himself. Instead, Armor Wars may be the best project to reintroduce White Vision since the upcoming Disney+ series will examine Tony Stark’s legacy, and Tony helped build the first Vision. Although rescuing her family may be Wanda’s goal, White Vision probably will not appear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness because he is not a proper part of her family and has his own problems.
