The latest Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness trailer confirms two more multiverse characters: Peggy Carter, better known as Captain Carter, and Maria Rambeau's Captain Marvel. When Marvel Studios announced the Doctor Strange sequel in 2019 and revealed its title, speculation immediately began about what characters could be featured thanks to the multiverse. Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) was confirmed to co-star alongside Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), but the rest of the cast remained mostly under wraps. However, the Doctor Strange 2 trailers have repeatedly teased some exciting cameos thanks to the MCU's version of an Illuminati team.

As revealed in the Super Bowl trailer, Patrick Stewart returns as Professor X in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. He's part of a secret council alongside Baron Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor) and Iron Man/Ultron bots that arrest Strange. There have been no shortage of rumors about who else could appear as part of this team, with everyone from John Krasinski's Reed Richards to Tom Cruise as Iron Man suggested online. Marvel provided a tease that What If...?'s Captain Carter could be making her live-action appearance too, thanks to her shield hiding in one of Doctor Strange 2's posters.

Now, Marvel Studios has confirmed Captain Carter and Maria Rambeau in a new Doctor Strange 2 trailer. The 15-second TV spot shared by Marvel Studios Canada revealed new looks at the film's sequence in the Illuminati base. It confirms Captain Carter's live-action debut, as a quick glimpse of Scarlet Witch fighting Peggy with her shield is briefly shown. There are also new frames of the Captain Marvel variant which confirm Lashana Lynch's return as Maria Rambeau following Captain Marvel.

Although Marvel Studios has kept most details about Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness a secret officially, they've changed course in the final weeks of the film's marketing campaign. There were previous glimpses at Professor X's hoverchair and a possible cameo by the Living Tribunal, while a recent trailer was the first confirmation of the Illuminati by name. The appearances of Captain Carter and Maria Rambeau in this Doctor Strange 2 trailer continues that trend. It also marks one significant way the movie will build on Marvel's What If...? by including the same Captain Carter featured in the show. She could also be another multiverse variant of Peggy who becomes a superhero, but her shield nevertheless resembles the one from the animated series.

The live-action debut of Captain Carter is something that will excite plenty of fans. Atwell's Peggy Carter is a fan-favorite character, and the introduction of Captain Carter in animation left audiences wanting to see her in the movies next. Meanwhile, Maria's death in WandaVision left many disappointed she couldn't become a superhero in the main MCU. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will now give both characters a chance to prove how powerful they are. Fighting Scarlet Witch will not be easy, though, and could end badly for Captain Carter and Maria if Wanda does kill the Illuminati members as theorized.
