Scott Derrickson approves of Sam Raimi taking over Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Derrickson was a director most known for films like Sinister and The Exorcism of Emily Rose but is now most known for directing Doctor Strange for Marvel. Derrickson was originally set to return for the Doctor Strange sequel after the film was confirmed by Disney, but Derrickson dropped out of the project due to creative differences.

While fans were surely disappointed to see Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness lose Derrickson as a director, fans were thrilled to hear that Sam Raimi might be directing the film. Raimi rose to fame thanks to his Evil Dead trilogy but is also familiar with superhero movies since he directed the Spider-Man trilogy with Tobey Maguire. Reports started coming out in February that Raimi was in talks to direct the Doctor Strange sequel, and just yesterday, Raimi confirmed he is directing Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Now, Derrickson has reiterated that he has no ill feelings about being replaced.

When posting on Twitter, Derrickson restated that he approves of Raimi taking over Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Derrickson said he supported Raimi back in February but has since spoken out about the matter again since it was just confirmed that Raimi is directing the movie. Derrickson's tweet can be read below.

At this point, there isn't a lot known about Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The film was originally believed to be a horror movie, but Kevin Feige later explained that Doctor Strange 2 isn't a horror movie, but rather a film with some "scary sequences." It's been known for a while that Scarlet Witch will be included in the sequel and that the film will connect to WandaVision, but there are several more characters rumored to appear. The film will reportedly include the Strange's fellow sorcerers Brother Voodoo and Clea, as well as the return of Mordo.

Derrickson has repeatedly expressed his support for Raimi, and so have Marvel fans. Derrickson's past horror movies have been serious and terrifying, but a lot of Raimi's horror films have a nice blend of dark comedy and horror, ala Evil Dead 2. Creating a full-on horror movie could have given fans a fresh addition to the MCU, but Raimi seems to fit Marvel's agenda since they have been mixing more comedy into their superhero films ever since Disney took over. Even though Derrickson isn't involved with the project anymore, it's still relieving to know that he is supportive of Raimi taking control of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
