Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will film more reshoots in November and December. The sequel to 2016's Doctor Strange, which is the fifth movie on the MCU's Phase 4 slate after Black WidowShang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten RingsEternals, and Spider-Man: No Way Home, is being directed by the prolific helmer Sam Raimi. Benedict Cumberbatch is returning to reprise his role as Dr. Stephen Strange, Marvel's powerful sorcerer. In the film, Stephen will continue to research on the Time Stone. But after his former mentor, Karl Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor) takes a villainous turn, the Master of Mystic Arts will let loose ferocious energy with dire consequences.

As with most movies last year, production on Doctor Strange 2 was wracked with hiccups and delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Filming originally began in November 2020, but due to a lockdown in the UK, it was delayed until January 2021. Shooting then continued until mid-April without any interruptions, and the post-production, additional photography, and preliminary reshoots were also completed by October. At that time, it seemed that Doctor Strange 2 would make it to its March 25, 2022, premiere date, but last week, Disney delayed the movie until May 6, 2022, while also pushing back 4 other MCU movies, including Thor: Love & Thunder, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, The Marvels, and Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania.

Now, Benedict Cumberbatch has additionally confirmed in a new interview on the Today show (via Doctor Strange 2 Updates) that Doctor Strange 2 will undergo additional reshoots in November and December. He explained that the reshoots are a part of the process to make the movie "even better," although he did not go into the details about the specific scenes. Additionally, Cumberbatch said that he is excited about Sam Raimi being at the helm, while also teasing that the movie will deliver some "extraordinary things."

Right now, it's unclear if the reshoots had any part in delaying the movie, although, by the looks of it, it appears that they were always scheduled to take place at the end of this year. As some fans may already know, Raimi's take on Doctor Strange 2 is decidedly different than the original idea for the movie. The director used his time during the production delays to push the movie in a "slightly scarier direction, " imbuing in it a sense of constant unease and a horror vibe. Given the way he has updated the story and its tone, it's no surprise that some reshoots are happening, as, after all, the director truly wants Doctor Strange 2 to be a hit superhero movie that doesn't lack the charm and fear of a Sam Raimi film.

In earlier days, reshoots had negative connotations, but now, they are routine with every blockbuster production, and they are incorporated into the schedule to give a movie its final touches and get any mistakes fixed.  Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, for one, is such a grand movie with a stacked cast, including Cumberbatch, Ejiofor, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong, Rachel McAdams, and Xochitl Gomez, and top-notch visuals, so it makes sense for it to take some extra time to perfect the story. Right now, it's hard to predict what the reshoots would warrant, but perhaps through them, fans might get hold of some additional information about the movie — that is, only if the secrecy is a bit lax.
