A recently released Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness BTS video reveals a mystery character that got cut from the film. The Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel had Benedict Cumberbatch's titular sorcerer working with Benedict Wong's Wong to try and protect the young America Chavez from Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda, now embracing her Scarlet Witch persona, as she wanted to absorb America's powers so that she could reunite with her twin sons in an alternate universe. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness would go on to gross $985 million worldwide and garner generally positive reviews from critics and audiences alike, namely for its multiversal characters, one of whom didn't come to be.

A new video released by Insider showed a BTS moment that featured a new mystery character that got cut from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. In the footage, Wanda flies around the Illuminati hall during her fight with the multiversal team that included Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic played by John Krasinski. During the video, it's possible to see a mystery fallen character that has been impaled by a sword, likely by Wanda. Check out the moment below:

Who Could The Mystery Character Be?

Balder the Brave

Clearly, given the context of the finished scene in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the mystery character has to be a member of the Illuminati who died fighting Wanda. The movie featured Wanda going toe to toe against a multiversal team of heroes called the Illuminati, borrowing the name of a major team from Marvel Comics, including Patrick Stewart back as Professor Charles Xavier, Hayley Atwell as Captain Carter, Lashana Lynch as Maria Rambeau/Captain Marvel, Anson Mount as Inhumans leader Black Bolt, John Krasinski as Reed Richards, of the Fantastic Four, and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Karl Mordo, the Sorcerer Supreme of Earth-838.The Illuminati were short-lived in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, as Wanda quickly plowed through the heroes in her attempt to get to America.

One character has been mentioned multiple times during the press circuit for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and a recent release of concept art from the movie points to him being the mystery character from the BTS video that gets impaled by Wanda — Balder the Brave. Knives Out and James Bond actor Daniel Craig has been reported as the actor attached to play Balder in the movie, but Craig allegedly dropped out due to an uptick in COVID-19 during the time of shooting. The concept art for Craig as Balder the Brave's a dead ringer to the character from the video, cloak and sword included. Balder is Thor's half-brother in the comics, which would be interesting to see play out in the MCU.

Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness Ended Up With Best Illuminati Possible

Doctor Strange 2 Illuminati

Even though Craig playing Thor's brother would've been a great addition to the movie, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness still managed to deliver a satisfying Illuminati lineup that included heavy hitters and original members of the team from the comics. In Marvel Comics, the Illuminati operate in the shadows, making the hard choices that the Avengers can't. The movie had a moment where the Illuminati killed Thanos and proceeded to punish Doctor Strange for his crimes, by having Black Bolt murder him. Such a dark story wouldn't have felt out of place in the comics team either. Original Illuminati members from the comics — such as Professor X, Mister Fantastic and Black Bolt — appearing in the movie felt more important than the cut cameo of Balder the Brave, and in the end, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, featured the best Illuminati lineup possible.
