Marvel Studios is reportedly casting a teenage girl to play America Chavez in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Benedict Cumberbatch's Marvel sorcerer debuted in 2016 but was pushed more into the spotlight through Avengers: Infinity War. His appearance there and the ending of Avengers: Endgame helped set up what should be an important role moving forward in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starting with his sequel.

Doctor Strange 2 was officially announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2019 but has changed a bit since then. Sam Raimi has taken over as the director after Scott Derrickson's departure, while coronavirus forced the sequel to be delayed multiple times. The extended wait for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness comes after reports that the movie will introduce some exciting characters from the comics. One of the reported new characters is America Chavez, and there are more details on what Marvel is looking for during the ongoing casting process.

America Chavez aka Miss America is a superpowerful 18-year-old bisexual Latinx hero from an alternate dimension in Marvel Comics. Although she was already linked to Doctor Strange 2, a casting grid obtained by The Direct reveals Marvel Studios is currently casting a Puerto Rican girl between the ages of 12 and 15 years old. This information confirms that Marvel is looking for a slightly younger America Chavez than her comic counterpart for Doctor Strange 2.

America Chavez punches through dimensions in Marvel Comics

If Marvel Studios is currently casting the role of America Chavez, it is possible that an actress will be confirmed for the role in the near future. Previous reports described Chavez's role as a supporting lead role, so she could have a sizable part to play. Since she comes from the Utopian Parallel - a dimension outside of time in the multiverse - and has the ability to punch her way through the multiverse with Star Portals, Chavez is a natural fit for a film with the title Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Since America Chavez is traditionally a few years older in the comics, it will be intriguing to see how the MCU handles her backstory and sexuality. This will also potentially make the actress who plays Chavez almost a decade younger than whoever plays Kate Bishop, which hopefully won't keep the close friends in the comics apart. This should be avoided by Marvel Studios' not-so-subtle plan to assemble the Young Avengers. Almost every founding member of the team is rumored to appear in some Phase 4 property, so Miss America's entrance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness should just be the beginning of her MCU role.
