Marvel Studios finally releases official images of four Illuminati members from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The long-awaited sequel to 2016's Doctor Strange delivered some major surprises for Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Not only did it position Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) as a villain and introduce America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez), Sam Raimi's movie traveled the multiverse. One of the biggest revelations to come from this was Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) encountering The Illuminati of Earth-838.
The marketing for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness tipped off the likely inclusion of The Illuminati long before the movie hit theaters in May 2022. However, it wasn't until the theatrical release that audiences got to see the full lineup of Marvel superheroes featured on the multiverse team. Various marketing materials spoiled a few of the surprise characters, such as Patrick Stewart's Professor X being heard in the Doctor Strange 2 Super Bowl trailer and a tease of Captain Carter (Hayley Atwell) hiding in the film's poster. The official roster proved to offer some other big shocks to Marvel fans, bringing back unexpected characters and paying off long-time fan casts.
Now that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has been out in theaters for a few weeks, Marvel Studios has officially revealed images of four Illuminati members. The images include Sorcerer Supreme Karl Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor), Captain Carter (Hayley Atwell), Maria Rambeau's Captain Marvel (Lashana Lynch), and Inhuman leader Black Bolt (Anson Mount). The Doctor Strange 2 Illuminati team also includes Professor X and Mister Fantastic (John Krasinski), but Marvel is so far holding off on officially revealing them.

The official looks at Doctor Strange 2's Illuminati team highlight the main sequence that the group is involved in. Captain Carter and Black Bolt are both shown sitting on their chairs in the main council room. Captain Marvel's photo is from the flashback of the Illuminati's time on Titan after killing Thanos. It is not clear why Professor X and Reed Richards were not also included in these official photos. Charles Xavier has already been teased multiple times in the marketing, while it is no longer a secret that John Krasinski appears as the Fantastic 4's leader.
Seeing the official images of these four Illuminati members from Doctor Strange 2 will likely only reignite excitement over their inclusions. Following the movie's release, rumors have surfaced of Hayley Atwell returning as Captain Carter for a live-action Disney+ show. It's unclear if Lashana Lynch's Captain Marvel will ever be seen again, while Anson Mount could come back as Black Bolt if the MCU ever tackles Inhumans. If any of that does happen, it certainly won't include them playing the variants from Earth-838, as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness quite clearly saw Scarlet Witch kill them all - except for Mordo that is.
