Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness star Benedict Wong hints the film's reshoots will wrap in September. Set for release in March 2022, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is one of the more anticipated projects of Marvel's Phase 4. As the movie's title suggests, the story will see the Sorcerer Supreme dealing with the MCU's ever-expanding multiverse, building off Loki season 1's cliffhanger finale. In fact, Tom Hiddleston is expected to return as Loki in the film.

Like so many other projects the past couple of years, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was impacted by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Earlier this year, filming was put on hold amidst a COVID-19 surge in the U.K., but director Sam Raimi and crew have kept the movie on track despite the setbacks. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness wrapped principal photography back in April, with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige there to commemorate the occasion. However, there's still some work left to be done.

In an interview with Collider, Wong discussed his experience working with Raimi, particularly the freedom to improv during scenes. The actor mentioned shooting will finish up this fall. Check out his comments below:

"I like throwing alts, and he likes them, so we just have a bit of a laugh. I just throw anything at the wall, and sometimes it will fall down and sometimes it'll stick. It's amazing, the creative process. As long as you're not afraid to throw something at the wall, it might be right or it might be wrong, but we're all just trying to make something here. We're having a lot of fun. We're finishing that off in September, so we're nearly there."

While Wong doesn't say it outright, it's reasonable to assume he's referring to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' pickups. The term reshoots may have a negative connotation in some circles, but they're a standard part of blockbuster production and are worked into the schedule. Just about every comic book movie undergoes additional photography (with some exceptions), so it's likely Raimi is getting what he needs in order to put the final touches on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Since the movie wrapped principal photography back in the spring, this is probably around the time the team would get back together for extra shooting.

Obviously, given Marvel's secrecy, it's unknown what these possible reshoots entail. It will be interesting to see if anyone else in the cast comments, which could provide clues on which characters are involved. Regardless, it's nice to see Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness continuing to come together after the project encountered some hurdles earlier on. The film will in all likelihood play a major role in shaping the MCU moving forward, so it's important Raimi and his team gets it right. Hopefully the reshoots add to the final product and make it another entertaining chapter in Phase 4.
