Warning! Spoilers ahead for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Charlize Theron reacts to her Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' secret cameo. Marvel Studios has officially returned to the big screen with the new Sam Raimi-directed film. Functioning as the continuation of Doctor Strange's (Benedict Cumberbatch) arc in the MCU, the sequel also serves as an exploration of the multiverse, not to mention, essentially, a sequel to WandaVision. Amidst all of this, Marvel Studios is still able to use Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as the launching pad for Theron's role in the MCU.

Set after the events of the Infinity Saga, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is Doctor Strange's next foray into the MCU after his involvement in Peter Parker's (Tom Holland) story in Spider-Man: No Way Home. In the new film, the sorcerer is once again tasked with looking after another young hero in America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez), who has a unique power to travel through multiple realities easily. Scarlet Witch's (Elizabeth Olsen) attempt to travel to a different reality where she can be with her sons causes her to hunt down Doctor Strange and America as Wanda tries to claim that unique ability for herself.

Theron's appearance as Clea in the film is minimal. She only makes a cameo in the Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness mid-credits scene, where she picks up the titular sorcerer for an0ther mission. Despite the minimal screentime, it's enough to get fans excited for her future in the MCU. With the film now out, Theron reacts to her Marvel casting with the perfect social media post that includes a subtle nod to Clea. Check out the image below:

Clea has a long history in Marvel Comics; created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, her first appearance was in 1964. The daughter of the Dark Dimension ruler, she is the niece of Dormammu, who MCU fans will be familiar with as the final villain of the original Doctor Strange movie from 2016. She has been the most prominent love interest for Doctor Strange in print, but their relationship has been tumultuous over the years. At one point, however, after the death of her husband, Stephen Strange, she assumes the position of Sorcerer Supreme. Whether or not Marvel Studios stick closely to this narrative is uncertain at this point. After all, they tend to cherry-pick plotlines that they adapt on the screen. But expect that after her introduction, Clea will play an important role in the MCU moving forward.

While Theron's social media post doesn't name-drop Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness or MCU, for that matter, the image she shares with her tweet is a subtle reference to Clea. The character's signature color in the comics is purple, hence the actress' gown in the image. For what it's worth, it was clever of her to not straight-up spoil her secret Doctor Strange 2 post-credits cameo since many are still waiting to watch the film over the weekend. But, the tease is clear enough that those who have seen it will immediately get what she actually means.
