New Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness concept art has revealed unused nightmarish world designs. The Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) sequel saw the wizard, as Peter Parker (Tom Holland) likes to call him, traverse the multiverse to keep America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) safe from a villainous Wanda Maximoff. The Scarlet Witch wanted to absorb America's ability to punch holes in other realities so that she could bring alternate versions of her sons back to Earth-616. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness grossed $985 million worldwide, making it the third highest-grossing movie of 2022.Weta Digital artist Aaron Black, who worked on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, shared new, unused concept art from the movie. The art pieces feature varied nightmarish world designs that Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange could have explored in the sequel while venturing through the multiverse. They also depict one of Strange's variants from the sequel. One of the worlds featured in the concept art depicts a major war, with Nazi zeppelins and planes flying above a complex battlefield that includes military troops, tanks, fighters on horses, and what appears to be a medieval army on top of a mountain. A couple of pieces don't depict worlds but show cosmic entities in great detail, including what feels like a powerful tiger entity. All the shared concept art can be found on the artist's ArtStation profile, linked above. Below are a few of the pieces, including the aforementioned war world.Related: New Doctor Strange Power Could Be Key To Understanding The MCU's Multiverse

What's Next For Doctor Strange In The MCU

Doctor strange blended with Loki's Nexus

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness ended with the Scarlet Witch giving up on her goal of harvesting America Chavez's power and sacrificing herself to destroy the Darkholds in all universes. America then went on to train in a repaired Kamar-Taj, while Doctor Strange was last seen in New York. The movie's final scene showed the moment Strange's messing with the Darkhold caught up to him, with Doctor Strange growing a third eye. In the Doctor Strange 2 mid-credits scene, the hero gets approached by the sorceress Clea (Charlize Theron), who tells Strange that his actions have started an incursion and that he must help her fix it. The scene ends with Strange and Clea jumping into a portal to the Dark Dimension.

Doctor Strange's journey in the MCU is far from over. As evidenced by the Marvel slate of movies and shows presented by Kevin Feige at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, the MCU's currently running through its Multiverse Saga, with the end goal being a couple of announced Avengers movies, Avengers: Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, premiering in 2025 and 2026 respectively. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was the first massive foray into the Multiverse side of things in the movies, but Ant-Man's trip to the Quantum Realm in next year's Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will provide a deeper understanding of the MCU's game plan, as the trilogy capper will pit the Ant-family against future Avengers villain Kang.

With the third Ant-Man movie dealing directly with the villain of Avengers: Kang Dynasty, Doctor Strange's role in the future of the MCU will be more tied up with the final event of the Multiverse Saga, Avengers: Secret Wars. The arrival of Clea and her giving Strange the mission of stopping an incoming incursion will undoubtedly lead to Strange having an important role in Secret Wars, as that movie will be all about the Avengers stopping incursions. With an attack being the event of two Earths colliding, Strange's experience with the Multiverse that started in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will prove invaluable to earth's heroes in what should be the biggest Avengers movie yet.
