Bruce Campbell is gunning for a role in Sam Raimi's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, possibly as a villain. The second Doctor Strange adventure was officially announced last year at San Diego Comic-Con, and at the time, Scott Derrickson was signed on to direct. However, Derrickson departed the project back in January following creative differences. Soon after, Spider-Man director Sam Raimi was reported to be in talks to direct the MCU-set film. It wasn't until yesterday, however, that fans received direct confirmation that Raimi is directing Multiverse of Madness.

The news has definitely sparked some excitement, especially considering many fans still look fondly on Raimi's Spider-Man 2. Little is known about Multiverse of Madness' plot, but it's already been confirmed that Benedict Cumberbatch will be returning as surgeon-turned-sorcerer Doctor Strange. Elizabeth Olsen will also be joining him this time around as Wanda Maximoff, and her Disney+ series WandaVision is said to tie into the events of Multiverse of Madness. There have been numerous rumors about other characters who could be included in the film, from America Chavez to the villain Nightmare, but at the moment they remain rumors.

Following news of Raimi's confirmed position as director, his frequent collaborator and good friend Bruce Campbell took to Twitter to share his thoughts. Campbell seemed to express his interest in joining the film in some way by saying, "Surely, there must be SOME character to challenge the good Doctor..." Check out his message below:

Campbell and Raimi have been friends for a long, long time, and they've worked together on many projects. Most notably, Campbell starred in Raimi's Evil Dead franchise as Ash Williams, a role that even translated into television with Ash vs Evil Dead. Raimi served as a producer on that series. Also, Campbell had cameos in all three of Raimi's Spider-Man films, further suggesting a role for Campbell in Multiverse of Madness could actually happen.

Multiverse of Madness was initially set for release in May 2021, but due to the coronavirus pandemic shifting much of the MCU's Phase Four, it has been moved to November 2021. Earlier reports suggested Multiverse of Madness was still on track to begin production in June, but it's unclear if its delayed release date will change that. Regardless of when, there's still an excellent chance Raimi could pull in Campbell for a role, even if it's a small one. Of course, many of the supporting parts have yet to be cast, so Campbell could even be recruited for a sizable role. Only time will tell if Campbell and Raimi will get to join forces once again.
