Victor von Doom is a force to be reckoned with in the Marvel Universe. Taking the name Doctor Doom, he has long been a primary arch-nemesis to the Fantastic Four, and has served as a longtime major super villain for other Marvel heroes in general over the years. However, as an artist reminds fans on Twitter, Doctor Doom isn't actually a real doctor.

While he may have a genius level intellect and be one of the smartest men alive in the Marvel Universe, he still can't claim himself to be an official doctor.

In the short two panel fan comic created by @kozunos on Twitter, Doctor Doom is having a conversation with Doctor Strange, whom the artist draws most often. When Doom tells Strange to call him Doctor Doom, Strange, an actual doctor who was once a surgeon, has some choice words for Doom, delivered with a hilarious amount of tired exasperation.

Strangely enough, it's true. Doctor Doom does not have a doctorate, nor did he ever graduate medical school like Doctor Strange did. In any official capacity, Doctor Doom should just be referred to as Doom, as he never earned the title, though if someone were to try telling him that they'd probably end up in a Latverian prison (if not worse). In his origins in Fantastic Four Annual #2 from Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, it was the same secret, illegal, and dangerous experiment that disfigured his face as a student that got him expelled from his university before he could graduate. However, at that point going forward, Doom began his career as a super villain in earnest, determining that he was too brilliant and superior to need validation from those he perceived as inferior. Doctorate or not, he decided to go by Doctor Doom.

Over time, and especially after he became the dictator of Latveria, it wouldn't be outside the realm of possibility to believe that he could have given himself the title of "Doctor" in an honorary sense, or even actually obtained doctorates from Latverian universities. Then again, perhaps not. He may have just taken the name Doctor so as not to be seen as having been outclassed by his great rival Reed Richards. Doom's pride and ego are huge, and to see Mr. Fantastic get treated with such reverence and respect by the scientific community would have no doubt irked him to no end, which could have led him to take the Doctor title as some form as recompense, seeing as how he believe Richards was responsible for his experiment failing.

In any case, officially or not, Doctor Doom isn't any less powerful or threatening in the Marvel Universe. He probably has the biggest god complex out of any other Marvel villain, probably even more than the ones who actually are considered gods. Why would someone like that even care about such a comparatively insignificant title? His pride. It's his biggest weakness. He has to make sure that others know how amazing, powerful, and brilliant he is at all times. Regardless, it's funny to think that actual doctors in the Marvel Universe like Doctor Strange just want him to shut up.
