It’s war in the Wastelands, as Doctor Doom launches an attack on Hydra and the Green Goblin and his deranged allies assault the Avengers in Osborn City. New Marvel Comics return this week in a digital-only format with the post-apocalyptic Avengers of the Wastelands #4 at the vanguard. Facing betrayal in the badlands, the broken heroes that call themselves Avengers arrive in Osborn City, the Grave of a Thousand Heroes, for the destiny that awaits them there.

Avengers of the Wastelands tells of the desperate heroics of a ragtag band of recruits waging war against Doctor Doom in the world where the heroes of old fell to the evil of the Red Skull. Fifty years after the fall, new versions of the Hulk, Thor, Vision, Ant-Man, and Captain America have risen up from the children of the dead and survivors who adopted their mantles and righteous cause. Now, Dani Cage wields the hammer of Thor and a former Super-Soldier in the service of Doom holds aloft the original shield of Captain America, while Ant-Man’s tech has found its way into the hands of refugee fleeing the ravages of war. Together with the android Viv Vision, the Avengers of the Wastelands have united to bring the battle to Doctor Doom.

In the penultimate chapter of Avengers of the Wastelands' five-issue limited series, Doctor Doom declares war on Hydra and invades contested territory to cut the head off of the rival organization. In a final move to consolidate his power, Doom has swept across the Wastelands slaying adversaries like Doctor Octopus, and wiping out opposition enclaves where rebellion festers. While Hydra prepares to execute a coup d’état against the Latverian despot to “usher in a new era of Hydra supremacy,” Doom strikes with a legion of Doombots and obliterates Hydra’s leadership. In the digital-only release of Avengers of the Wastelands #4, Doctor Doom’s fiendish grip on power tightens as aspiring Avengers arrive in the necropolis of Osborn City.

Following coordinates salvaged from an inactive Doombot, the Avengers put aside their suspicions, of each other and their convenient discovery, and advance on fated Osborn City. A veritable "Grave of a Thousand Heroes” with the desiccated corpses of the fallen on hideous display, the Avengers’ destination is ruled by the deranged Green Goblin and his cohorts, the Absorbing Man, Wild Child, Shocker, The Enchantress, and MODOK. Provoked by villainous taunts and incensed by the dishonored dead, the Avengers spring Goblin’s trap... and, in the ensuing conflict, the treachery of one of their own is revealed.

Is the Super-Soldier, Captain America still in the service of Doctor Doom? Or are the Avengers mere pawns in Doom’s deadly game of annihilation? Find out in the new digital-only release of Avengers of the Wasteland #4 on the Marvel Comics digital store and Comixology.
