True to its name, the upcoming Dragonlance: Shadow of the Dragon Queen campaign for Dungeons & Dragons will feature lots of battles against dragons, both the true dragons and their draconic cousins. While the Dragonlance setting for DnD has dragons in its name, the setting had a period of time when dragons vanished from the world, along with the gods themselves. At the point when Shadow of the Dragon Queen takes place, the chromatic dragons have suddenly returned, and the free people of Krynn must now face these mythological beasts on the battlefield.

DnD's Shadow of the Dragon Queen campaign will pit players against the dragonarmies of Takhisis, which means they'll be facing dragons. A new video on the official Dungeons & Dragons YouTube channel has revealed that players will be facing a lot of dragons in Shadow of the Dragon Queen, as well as in the Warriors of Krynn board game, which are both compatible with each other. This means players can take on dragons as a party, or face them alongside an army of allies.

The main threat that players will be facing in Shadow of the Dragon Queen is red dragons, which have been featured heavily in the artwork for the campaign and board game. DnD's Shadow of the Dragon Queen is harder than other campaigns, as players will be facing every variety of the true chromatic dragons, with red dragons (the most powerful of the core evil dragons) being a prominent part of Takhisis' army. A dragon isn't an insurmountable challenge for a party of adventurers, but they're easily among the most powerful foes they can face, and groups will need to give it their all in combat.

Players won't just be facing chromatic dragons in Shadow of the Dragon Queen, as there are dragonlike beings in Takhisis' army. These include dragonnel, which are smaller dragons that are similar to wyverns and are used as flying mounts by the enemy. There are also draconians: dragonlike humanoids that have been bred for war and act as Takhisis' shock troopers. Luckily, Dragonlance characters get free feats, making them stronger than usual and better equipped for more combat-heavy adventures.

Shadow of the Dragon Queen and Warriors of Krynn won't throw players into battles against adult red dragons from the start, as the campaign will escalate in terms of difficulty. As time goes on, players will be facing these incredibly powerful beings in battle, as well as the new death dragons that can create undead with their necromantic breath. DnD players generally shouldn't mix-max, but it might help to take on some anti-dragon builds in Dragonlance: Shadow of the Dragon Queen.
