There are five Dungeons & Dragons books set to release in 2023. Between these new adventures, settings, and other sourcebooks, DnD's 2023 lineup has so far explored a heist anthology and a sourebook focused on giants. Each of the five DnD books from 2023 covers a very different subject, and some of the tabletop game's recent playtest material may give a hint as to what fans can expect. The DnD books releasing in 2023 are:

Dungeons & Dragons kicked off 2023 with Keys from the Golden Vault, an adventure anthology. Among the many adventures already available for DnD fifth edition, the ones introduced here stand out because they all follow a highly-anticipated theme: heists.

Keys From The Golden Vault - February 21, 2023

Each of the adventures in Keys from the Golden Vault revolves around its own heist, making it an ideal investment for any DMs or players looking to establish their own DnD criminal empire. This concept has been touched on before in the Waterdeep: Dragon Heist adventure, but that product has been criticized in the past for not living up to the "heist" portion of its name.

With Keys from the Golden Vault continuing the game's recent trend of offering an array of options as opposed to a single campaign on a subject, the anthology has an adventure to suit any table's criminal needs.

Bigby Presents: Glory of the Giants - August 15, 2023

Following Keys from the Golden Vault is Bigby Presents: Glory of the Giants, which was released on August 15, 2023. Giants are one of DnD's most memorable fantastical creatures, with a surprisingly deep history and hierarchy. Glory of the Giants explores the lore of the giants in the game's most iconic settings, providing DMs and players alike with options - including a subclass for barbarians - to make the giants in their game even more special.

The newest sourcebook also includes giant enclaves that can be added to any 5e content, new backgrounds and feats, and a long list of new monsters. These new monsters range from dinosaurs and giants to Scions - high-level encounters that have become uncommon for DnD 5e.

Phandelver And Below: The Shattered Obelisk - September 19, 2023

The third book in DnD's upcoming 2023 lineup will be a familiar sight to many who've played DnD 5e: a full-length campaign book titled Phandelver and Below: The Shattered Obelisk, which releases September 19, 2023. This book will start with a remastered version of the "Lost Mine of Phandelver" adventure that was included in 5e's original Starter Set and then expand on it to make it a full-fledged campaign.

DnD's Phandelver will be a cosmic horror campaign. The original "Lost Mine of Phandelver" featured many classic fantasy elements, not straying too far into DnD's proprietary weirdness in order to appeal to newcomers, but it seems like Phandalin's troubles have been made more expansive in order to fit higher-level play and the cosmic nature of the game's recent products. From everything shown ahead of The Shattered Obelisk's release, this will be one of the strangest DnD adventures to date.

Planescape: Adventures In The Multiverse - October 17, 2023

The classic Planescape setting will return to DnD when Planescape: Adventures in the Multiverse releases on October 17, 2023. As the multiverse of DnD continues to expand, now is the perfect time to reintroduce a concept that focuses on such cosmic affairs. The new 5e version of Planescape is sure to provide an abundance of lore about the disparate planes, but its main focus is set to be Sigil, the City of Doors.

Sigil serves as a sort of hub for the planes, and is inhabited by all manner of factions and creatures from different worlds; it's essentially a more metropolitan version of DnD's newly-introduced Radiant Citadel. Veteran players eager to return to Sigil and new players looking for more outlandish options alike will want to watch out for Planescape's release later this year.

The Book of Many Things - November 14, 2023

Dungeons & Dragons Bard Deck of Many Things Cover

Dungeons & Dragons' final scheduled book release of 2023 is The Book of Many Things, a companion to the iconic Deck of Many Things item. Releasing on November 14, 2023, The Book of Many Things is a collection of new content for both players and DMs, taking heavy inspiration from the Deck of Many Things, including new character options, monsters, adventure settings, and magic items.

In DnD 5e, drawing a card from the deck can do anything from trapping a character's soul in a hidden location to granting them up to three wishes. Playtest material in 2022 introduced "Deck of Many Things" spells to DnD, which will certainly be among the new additions included in The Book of Many Things. Tables looking to embrace the chaos and up the ante of their Dungeons & Dragons campaign will certainly want to scour this book for inspiration.
