The Division 2's development crew is currently hard at work on producing new content set to arrive later in 2021; in the meantime, players can expect the next seasons to come in the form of Year 2 re-runs. Year 2 kicked off last spring with the advent of The Division 2's Warlords of New York expansion. Developer Massive Entertainment deployed Year 2 Season 1 shortly thereafter, introducing a second manhunt for rogue Division Agents, along with new Global and League events.

In the year since then, The Division 2 has received three additional seasons, as well as a second raid dubbed Operation Iron Horse and The Summit PvE mode. Following the launch of Season 4 in early December 2020, active players were left to wonder if more content could possibly be in the works, given Ubisoft's and Massive Entertainment's silence on the matter. Fortunately, the publisher and developer recently confirmed that a fresh batch of content for The Division 2 is on the horizon, though it's now clear concrete details are to likely remain under wraps for the next several months.

A blog post on Ubisoft's website outlining "The Road Ahead" notes Massive Entertainment is presently working on the next content update for The Division 2, comprised of a new game mode and "new ways to progress your agent with an emphasis on increasing build variety and viability." A group of developers from Ubisoft Bucharest are assisting on the update, which won't go live until late 2021 at the earliest. To pass the time, Massive Entertainment plans to drop re-runs of Year 2's seasons; thus, Year 2 Season 5 will actually take the shape of Year 2 Season 1. This move should allow players to gather collectibles and other rewards they previously missed. As of writing, it's unclear whether a potential Season 6 will simply include Season 2 content and so on.

The Division 2 Raid Matchmaking

While it's unfortunate that a proper Season 5, so to speak, isn't on the docket, a re-run of past seasons could be a boon for some players. This particularly holds true for those who didn't participate in past events and, consequently, missed out on opportunities to take down some of The Division 2's fiercest rogue agents and more.

Massive Entertainment has a lot on its plate, in addition to The Division 2 updates. Production on the studio's Avatar game began years ago; earlier this year, the Ubisoft-owned group announced a partnership with Lucasfilm Games to develop an open-world Star Wars project.
