Details about Tom Clancy's The Division 2 Season 9 will finally surface soon, with Ubisoft planning to host a Public Test Server for a new game mode on Friday, April 1. Ubisoft first teased fresh content for The Division 2 in May of last year, promising a late 2021 update that would consist of an additional play mode and changes to the leveling system designed to improve upon build variety. Such content never hit the sequel, however.

Notably, Ubisoft delayed The Division 2's late 2021 update in October, citing the development team's need for extra time to deliver a truly high-quality product. A blog post from the crew insisted the ambitious new season and all of its associated content would begin rolling out in February 2022. Clearly, these plans fell by the wayside, leaving many players to wonder whether The Division 2's seasonal update remained on track for a 2022 launch. It seems fans of the Tom Clancy-branded shooter need not wonder any longer, given the latest news out of Ubisoft on the matter.

A post on the official The Division 2 Twitter page (via Wccftech) finally let loose cursory details about the title's next major update. For one, news concerning Season 9 will begin making the rounds "soon," the development team said. And Ubisoft plans to host a Public Test Server (PTS) for Season 9's new game mode on April 1 starting at 2:00 AM PST. Preloading for the PTS on PC kicked off earlier this morning. In addition, Ubisoft noted that while changes to Specializations were previously planned for an early Season 9 rollout, this particular revamp will now release "later in Year 4." The social media post reads as follows:

That players will finally get their hands on The Division 2's long-awaited new gameplay mode in the near future is good news. However, the April 1 date for the PTS on PC has raised a few eyebrows, especially when considering how the industry likes to enjoy a good laugh on April Fools' Day. The Division 2 can't necessarily afford to set up such an elaborate con given how much time has passed since its last update of note, so here's to hoping tomorrow's test server actually functions as promised.

Ubisoft's postponement of the Specialization revamp doesn't instill much confidence, either. But, as always, there must be a reason for the lengthy delay. As many may recall, the waiting game for new Division content also includes free-to-play title The Division Heartland, a project from Ghost Recon creator Red Storm Entertainment that has yet to receive concrete details.
