Daredevil is finally receiving its long-awaited fourth season, this time premiering on Disney+. The series will reportedly be a full-blown continuation of the show's original run on Netflix, this time with more tie-ins to the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe.

While it has almost been four years since the finale of the show's third season, there remain several dangling plot threads that fans have anxiously sought answers to since Daredevil's cancellation. When the fan-favorite series finally returns, it will have the major responsibility of addressing these unfinished storylines.

Power Vacuum

The finale episode of Daredevil's third season depicted the long-awaited fall of Wilson Fisk, the Kingpin of Crime. However, in his wake was left a major power vacuum in the city's underworld (which went unfilled as far as can be told). With the Kingpin's return in Hawkeye, it would appear that even he has been unable to fill the void he had once filled in his heyday.

With Wilson Fisk locked away in prison for an undetermined period of time, there is a perfect window for a new crime boss to step into Kingpin's place. As such, a new crime boss could be introduced in the next season of Daredevil that could prove to be an even bigger pain in the crimefighter's neck than his former nemesis.

His Rivalry With The Punisher

Jon Bernthal's Punisher was a hit with Marvel fans - ever since his introduction in the second season of Daredevil. The character would go on to star in his own two-season series on Netflix, causing many fans to hope that they'll soon see his return in the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Marvel Studios now seems intent on canonizing the events of the Defenders Saga and all its characters, perhaps teasing another team-up between the two vigilantes in the MCU. If the Punisher is to return to the MCU, Daredevil season 4 would be the perfect place to do so.

A Mother Lost

The initial premise of Daredevil included the notable absence of Matt Murdock's mother, Maggie, from the earliest stage of his childhood. However, the third season of the series revealed that Maggie was one of the nuns that had raised Matt after his father was killed, causing the fractured man even more psychological torment as a result of the secrets that had been kept from him his entire life.

While Matt eventually came to forgive Maggie for her lifelong deception, there still remains plenty for the two to work through when it comes to their mother-son relationship. Maggie Murdock certainly has plenty more stories to be told, which the next season of the series has an obligation to tell.

The Chaste

As Daredevil began to hint toward the upcoming Defenders crossover event, it introduced the concept of the Chaste, a group of warriors preparing to battle the Hand. While the Hand was dispatched during the events of The Defenders, there still remain several unanswered questions regarding the Chaste.

While the purpose of the Chaste may have been fulfilled, the question remains: what happened to the other members of this clandestine group? While the hand claimed to have wiped them out, this seems highly unlikely given the sheer amount of training on the part of the Chaste. When Daredevil returns, it must at least address the fate of the Chaste in the years since the Hand fell.

Matt's One Rule

Daredevil season 3 finale Kingpin

Much like several other vigilante superheroes, Daredevil has one rule in his crimefighting: he does not take lives. However, Matt Murdock's resolve regarding this statute was often tested throughout the series, as, time after time, he was forced to choose whether to spare the lives of his enemies or kill them, ending the threat they pose to the innocents he has vowed to protect.

The series' contemplation of justice and the merits of killing one's enemies are part of what made Daredevil one of the best superhero shows of all time. In order to ensure fans that it continues to be the same gritty series with deep themes as it once was, Daredevil's fourth season must explore its basic fundamentals once more.

Nelson & Murdock: Attorneys At Law

Matt Murdock And Foggy Nelson In Daredevil

While Daredevil is the intriguing protagonist of the series, his day job as an attorney plays an equally important role in the show, especially in the first season, where he and his best friend, Foggy Nelson, had set up their own law firm: Nelson & Murdock. After experiencing several ups and downs in their partnership and friendship, Matt and Foggy resolved to reunite by the series' end.

Daredevil has been confirmed for a fourth season, with Charlie Cox set to return in the title role; however, news remains scarce regarding the series' supporting cast. At the moment, fans are hoping against hope that certain beloved characters like Foggy Nelson are allowed to continue their journey in the next season of the hit show.

Bullseye

Benjamin Poindexter, otherwise known as the supervillain Bullseye, is one of the best characters from Daredevil comics, and perhaps the most intriguing loose end of the series. After being betrayed by Wilson Fisk, Poindexter was last seen in an OR, receiving surgery on his spine after Kingpin broke it. However, the third season's final scene revealed that he may not be finished with his supervillain career after all.

It would be a major fumble on the part of Daredevil's new showrunners to neglect the character of Bullseye in their upcoming revival. Outside of Wilson Fisk, Bullseye is Daredevil's greatest foe, who has yet to truly leave his mark on the series, something he may finally get the chance to do when it returns on Disney+.

Karen And Matt

Matt Murdock has a storied history with lovers lost. However, one particular ex-girlfriend never exited his life completely. Karen Page proved to be an important part of Matt Murdock's life, even after he consistently let her down. As such, it just may be that Karen and Matt's romantic relationship will be rekindled in the show's revival.

If the events of Daredevil's season 3 finale are anything to go by, Matt Murdock has come to a place in his life where he has finally made peace with the two warring sides of himself, finally opening up the door to interpersonal relationships once more. If this is truly the case, then a romance with Karen may truly be on the table once more, fulfilling many fans' wishes for the couple to finally find happiness together.

The Defenders Saga

With the smash success of Daredevil, Netflix eventually formulated its own mini-universe of Marvel heroes, including Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. These four heroes eventually united for the limited series The Defenders, which is the only instance in which this team has worked together to date, but perhaps not the last.

With Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk already making their debuts in the MCU proper, it seems inevitable that the remaining three members of the Defenders won't be far behind. Some fans have already begun theorizing as to when the other Defenders might next appear in the MCU, and, while nothing is yet confirmed, Daredevil season 4 would be the perfect place to at least tease their arrival.

Fisk V. Murdock

Wilson Fisk and Matt Murdock in Daredevil

Undoubtedly the best aspect of Daredevil was the brutal rivalry between Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk. Both worked to better the city in their own way, each in stark opposition to the other's tactics. At this point, Fisk and Murdock are the only two characters from the Defenders Saga to have returned to the larger MCU, indicating that they will once again face off.

The original showrunners of Daredevil have revealed that their initial plan for the series had consisted of five seasons, with the fifth and final batch of episodes featuring the ultimate battle between Fisk and Murdock. Now that the series has a second chance at achieving this end, it would be a disservice to the fans and the show itself to ignore the potential of a final faceoff between the two opposing forces of nature.
