Disneyland's Avengers Campus will open in 2021. First announced in 2017, Disney's next themed attraction will bring the Marvel Cinematic Universe to life. Located at Disney's California Adventure park in Anaheim, California, Avengers Campus will include Avengers Headquarters serving as the entranceway for guests to walk into an immersive Marvel experience where fans can do meet-and-greets with their favorite superheroes, including Black Panther, Iron Man, Thor, Captain Marvel and more. The Marvel-themed attraction will open near the Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout, replacing A Bug's Land, the now-closed attraction inspired by Pixar's A Bug's Life.
More details about the upcoming attraction were announced over the last several months. In March, it was revealed that Tom Holland would voice Spider-Man in Web Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure, a prominent attraction in Avengers Campus centered around the beloved superhero. It was also announced the park would debut a brand new Iron Man suit that same month: the Mark 80. Of course, Iron Man's involvement in the attraction means that there's a big difference between the park and the MCU, considering Tony Stark's death at the end of Avengers: Endgame. This year, it was announced that the attraction is set in a world where the Thanos snap never happened, allowing visitors to see characters that died in the film. Avengers Campus was initially scheduled for a July 18, 2020 opening, but the coronavirus pandemic delayed those plans.
Disney has now confirmed that Avengers Campus will be ready to open this year at Disney California Adventure. The announcement comes in a D23 Disney fan club e-mail (via OCR), which states that the parks are expected to open before the end of the year.
While a 2021 date for the attraction's debut was expected, the ongoing pandemic and halts on construction have complicated things and made another delay seem possible. Once it does open, fans will be able to immerse themselves in the training grounds for Avengers. Along with a Spider-Man attraction, the park will also include a Doctor Strange outdoor stage show with special effects and Pym Test Kitchen, an Ant-Man and the Wasp-themed restaurant that will consist of advanced technologies to change the size of the food.
The ongoing global pandemic has undoubtedly impacted the Disneyland parks, and plans for a 2021 opening for the new Marvel-themed attraction were looking doubtful. However, it sounds like Disney is optimistic about this year and that fans will finally get to experience their favorite superhero characters off-screen before the end of the year.
