The firs trailer for Disney and Ava DuVernay's A Wrinkle in Time will debut at D23 this month. In an age when Disney has focused more on either remaking its classic animated films in live-action or producing sequels to its more popular films, one of the studio's more noteworthy upcoming projects is a new addition to the Mouse House's collection.Indeed, A Wrinkle in Time is based on Madeleine L’Engle’s 1963 sci-fi children's novel - and despite decades of popularity, the book has never been properly adapted for the big screen before (not counting the Canadian TV movie version in 2003).

DuVernay, the director of such Oscar-nominated and/or Oscar-winning films as Selma and 13th, is calling the shots on A Wrinkle in Time movie. Relative newcomer Storm Reid is playing the lead role in the live-action film, alongside a supporting cast that includes Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling, Chris Pine, Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Zach Galifianakis. Now, we can confirm when the first teaser for the film will be arriving.

The first teaser trailer for A Wrinkle in Time will debut at the D23 event later this month, DuVernay confirmed in a tweet (see below). The message was posted in reply to what appears to be a “Wrinkle in Time” fan account:

Teaser trailer coming at @D23Expo. Hope you like what you see! https://t.co/Ol1EqSNd64— Ava DuVernay (@ava) July 3, 2017

Selma - David Oyelowo, Ava Duvernay and Oprah Winfrey

After years of development - with Frozen co-writer/director Jennifer Lee handling the adapted screenplay - A Wrinkle in Time movie was confirmed to be moving forward in 2016, with DuVernay directing - making her the first African-American woman to direct a $100M + live-action film. Casting of big names, as well as Reid, was announced throughout the remainder of that year, before A Wrinkle in Time wrapped production this past March.

DuVernay is an accomplished, very talented director whose Selma was a huge accomplishment and 13th, also nominated for an Oscar, wasn’t far behind. The A Wrinkle in Time source material has been loved by generations, and that cast is very strong top to bottom. If A Wrinkle in Time is a hit, it's likely to give a whole lot of other similar sci-fi novels a chance at being adapted.

The only concern is that Wrinkle in Time is untested as a cinematic property, and doesn’t come with the same cinematic heritage as Disney titles like Beauty and the Beast or The Jungle Book. When the trailer debuts in a few weeks, we will have a much better idea of what to expect.
