Ralph and Vanellope take on the World Wide Web in the new trailer for Disney's sequel Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2. The original Wreck-It Ralph was a critical and commercial success when it hit theaters in 2012, taking the masses on a Toy Story-esque journey into the games of Litwak's Family Fun Center and Arcade. Disney officially confirmed plans for another Wreck-It Ralph adventure four years later - only this time around, the wild and wondrous realm known as the Internet will serve as the main setting.
Wreck-It Ralph 2 follows Ralph (John C. Reilly) and Vanellope von Schweetz (Sarah Silverman) as they travel into cyberspace, in search of a part they need to fix Vanellope's game Sugar Rush and save it from being permanently retired. Along the way, the pair receive assistance from such unusual individuals as Yesss (Taraji P. Henson) - the head algorithm for a popular site called BuzzTube - and a search engine appropriately named KnowsMore (Alan Tudyk). Question is, can this duo find what they're looking for before Ralph does what he does best and "breaks" the Internet at large?
Disney gave everyone their first look at Yesss and KnowsMore in the Wreck-It Ralph 2 images released last week, along with a glimpse at a key scene where Vanellope crosses paths with other Disney princesses. In fact, much like the first Wreck-It Ralph was filled with classic video game easter eggs and cameos, the followup will be overflowing with similar appearances from characters owned by Disney (including, those of the Marvel and Star Wars variety). For more on just that, you should check out the new Wreck-It Ralph 2 trailer, above.
Among other things, the second Wreck-It Ralph 2 trailer gives KnowsMore a proper introduction and features the first actual footage of Yesss in action. It further offers a sneak peek at the scenes where Vanellope visits Disney's real-life official website, Oh My Disney, and crosses paths with more than a few familiar faces at the Mouse House. As one might expect, the sequence where the Sugar Rush princess meets characters like Snow White, Cinderella, and Rapunzel for the first time gets the bulk of attention here.
While the Wreck-It Ralph 2 trailers have Internet-related gags and Disney-based jokes aplenty, they haven't exactly made it clear what the film is about beyond that. Thankfully, director Phil Johnston has indicated that the sequel will continue to explore Ralph and Vanellope's friendship and how their their relationship is challenged in unexpected ways by their adventures online. As entertaining as the pop culture-related humor in the Wreck-It Ralph sequel promises to be, it will need that solid emotional throughline to give the whole thing some actual substance to go with its many, many riffs on Disney pop culture.
