The detailed design for the Disney Wish Cruise Line’s brand new Star Wars Hyperspace Lounge is inspired by Solo: A Star Wars Story. Following the success of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in 2016, Disney launched the franchise’s next standalone film Solo: A Star Wars Story in 2018, which told the origin story of the iconic character Han Solo. Directed by Ron Howard, Solo followed Alden Ehrenreich’s title character and Chewbacca 10 years before the events of Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope as they joined the galaxy’s criminal underworld.

As one of the most popular franchises in history, Disney made no mistake when it acquired Star Wars’ parent company, Lucasfilm, in 2012. Following Disney’s full acquisition of Star Wars, the company produced a new sequel trilogy in the Skywalker saga, multiple Disney+ original TV series, and, now, the Star Wars Hyperspace Lounge aboard the 2022-launched Disney Wish. While kids are welcome during the day, the adults-only night bar is filled with signature Star Wars-inspired cocktails like the $5,000 “Kaiburr Crystal,” a video graphic that launches the bar across the galaxy through hyperspace, and various relics from Star Wars lore.

Screen Rant had the incredible opportunity to tour the Disney Wish’s Star Wars Hyperspace Lounge, which included an exclusive interview with the crew about the bar’s inspirations. Pulling from one of the more undervalued Disney-era Star Wars projects, the design and layout of the new bar are inspired by Solo: A Star Wars Story, which introduced various high-end lounges on ships like that of Dryden Vos. The Star Wars Hyperspace Lounge thus reflects the more modern, luxury establishments with metallic details and fine leathers that Han traversed during his Solo heist. Rather than continuing the franchise’s noted focus on Tatooine, the Star Wars Hyperspace Lounge gives the spotlight to many of the lesser-explored planets and cultures of the galaxy. Solo: A Star Wars Story is considered one of the franchise’s most underappreciated movies, with the highly anticipated film bombing at the box office during its original theatrical run. The new Disney Wish easily could have run with a replica of the classic Mos Eisley Cantina, but decided to charter less familiar territory for a brand new fan experience.

The selection of Solo: A Star Wars Story for the bar’s design inspiration may also be due to Disney’s anticipation for the franchise’s next standalone film. While Star Wars has primarily shifted to Disney+ TV series with the likes of The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Obi-Wan Kenobi, Disney is already planning several upcoming standalone feature films, including Rogue Squadron and Taika Waititi’s untitled Star Wars movie. Amidst a notably continued focus on the Skywalker saga, Disney Wish’s Star Wars Hyperspace Lounge pays special tribute to one of the franchise’s more unique installments.
