One thing that Disney always includes in their movies is love. This does not just include romantic love among the protagonists. Especially in more recent years, Disney also features love between friends, family, pets, and self-love. It's important to showcase that loving yourself in a healthy manner is a good quality to have.

Disney inspires many fans over the years with various quotes about love, and self-love is no different. Whether it's in the form of a song lyric, an exchange between characters, or sound words of advice, these Disney quotes about self-love and being true to yourself are guaranteed to inspire even the most self-conscious Disney fan.

Cinderella— Cinderella

"They Can't Order Me To Stop Dreaming."

Cinderella walks into a room in 1950's Cinderella

Although one of the earlier princesses, Cinderella remains a popular and beloved princess to this day. And whilst she does find her prince, that is not to say that Cinderella believes in herself, despite years of mistreatment from her stepmother and stepsisters.

"A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes" is not only one of the most iconic Disney songs but it's a song about believing in yourself and how dreams can keep faith in oneself. Mid-song, after being interrupted by the "killjoy" clock, Cinderella confidently tells her friends "they can't order me to stop dreaming". This quote is not only great for self-love but it perfectly sums up Cinderella's personality.

Hercules — Hercules

"I Finally Know Where I Belong."

Hercules and Meg

Whilst Hercules' main quest is to become a true hero, his quest is to find his place in the world. Due to being cast out by society as a teenager because of his uncontrollable strength, Hercules felt self-conscious and alone, despite his adoptive parents' reassurance.

He soon finds true happiness once he realizes rejoining the gods means leaving Meg behind. So instead, Hercules decides to stay on Earth with her, claiming happily: "I finally know where I belong." Whether someone is involved or not, there is nothing more true about self-love than that sense of belonging.

Tamatoa — Moana

"Now I Know I Can Be Happy As A Clam Because I'm Beautiful, Baby!"

Disney villains are often very self-loving (though sometimes to the point of arrogance.) But no Disney villain is perhaps more positively self-loving than Tamatoa, the giant bejeweled crab from Moana. Although only in the movie for one scene, Tamatoa is one of the most unforgettable characters of the movie, and that is partially down to his song "Shiny".

In the first verse, Tamatoa laments how he was once a "drab little crab" but goes on to sing proudly "Now I know I can be as happy as a clam because I'm beautiful, baby!" The song is not only catchy but practically oozes self-love and confidence. Tamatoa may be an evil greedy crab but he is somewhat inspirational when it comes to loving oneself.

Mama Odie — The Princess And The Frog

"Dig Deep Down Inside Yourself, You'll Find Out What You Need. Blue Skies And Sunshine Guaranteed."

Mama Odie and frog Tiana in Princess and the Frog

The Princess and the Frog is full of excellent characters, and one of them is Mama Odie. Tiana and Naveen come to the eccentric voodoo queen to change back into humans but Mama Odie advises them to find what they need rather than what they want to find happiness in the form of song.

"Dig a Little Deeper" is considerably the best song in The Princess and the FrogNot only is it irresistible to dance along to but it is about finding happiness in oneself with what is needed rather than want. It certainly worked for Tiana and Naveen, who found happiness within themselves when they realized what they needed.

Wreck-It Ralph — Wreck-It Ralph

"I'm Bad, And That's Good. I Will Never Be Good, And That's Not Bad. There's No One I'd Rather Be Than Me."

Wreck It Ralph John C Reilly Jack McBrayer

The journey of Wreck-It Ralph is a great example of a journey to being happy with oneself. Fed up of being mistreated by his peers and thus tired of being the villain of his game, Ralph embarks on a journey to become a hero but soon finds that bad guys don't have to be truly bad at heart.

The above quote is the motto recited at the video game villains' support group. But it is at its most poignant to both Ralph and audiences when he recites the quote to himself when he plunges himself into the volcano to save Sugar Rush. The latter part of the quote is especially self-affirming, and the moment where Ralph realizes that he is a good person, despite being a "bad guy".

Baloo — The Jungle Book

"That's Why A Bear Can Rest At Ease With Just The Bare Necessities Of Life."

Mowgli lays on Baloo's stomach

Baloo is easily the most likable character in The Jungle Book and it's easy to see why. Good-natured and carefree, Baloo is normally very positive by nature and is normally not bothered by what others think of him.

"The Bare Necessities" is an unforgettable Disney classic that many tap their toes to. It's all about relaxing, letting things go, and being happy with the simple things in life. The above lyric confirms how happy Baloo is with just the jungle's simple pleasures and therefore he is happy with himself.

Edna Mode — The Incredibles

"I Never Look Back, Darling, It Distracts Me From The Now!"

One of the most memorable characters from The Incredibles is superhero suit designer Edna Mode. Confident and passionate, Edna is perhaps a perfect example of self-love.

When Bob Parr comes to Edna for a patch-up of his old super suit, Edna tells him "I never look back, darling, it distracts me from the now." One of the keys of self-love is staying in the present, and no one does this more than Edna. This quote is perfect in representing self-love and is pure Edna Mode. It's one of Disney's most used quotes that fans still aren't sick of.

Elsa — Frozen

"Here I Stand In The Light Of Day. Let The Storm Rage On."

Elsa creating snow in Frozen

"Let It Go" from blockbuster Frozen is not only Disney's most iconic song of the 21st century but it is a great song about self-love and acceptance. In a spellbinding animated sequence, Elsa finally opens herself up and builds herself a grand ice castle, belting out the lyrics with self-assured confidence.

Whilst the majority of the song can be considered a great quote about self-love, what makes this particular lyric stand out is how it's one of the final lyrics. Elsa has built her castle, given herself a new look, and is finally feeling free to be herself for the first time in years.

Mickey Mouse

"To Laugh At Yourself Is To Love Yourself."

Sometimes, Mickey Mouse is more than just the mascot of one of the biggest entertainment giants in the world. He is the symbol of Disney, which envokes faith, magic, and love, including loving oneself.

In his many screen appearances, Mickey has often shown to be happy with himself, and this is perfectly summed up with his quote: "To laugh at yourself is to love yourself". This could not be a more apt quote about self-love. If someone can laugh at themselves without fail, they are undoubtedly secure and happy with themselves. These are wise words from the Mouse indeed.

Walt Disney

"The More You Like Yourself, The Less You Are Like Anyone Else, Which Makes You Unique."

Disney's most inspiring quotes and phrases do not just come from the movies. Walt Disney himself often had some very inspirational quotes that have stuck with fans for generations, and this is one such example.

Walt Disney encouraged people individually to never stop dreaming and to be their best selves. And to do that, self-love is crucial, as Disney says in the above quotes. Self-love is not only great for well-being but it helps people to stand out and let their unique personalities shine.
