How many of us didn't grow up watching the Disney Channel at some point? Disney's network has been giving us dozens of shows and animated series since 1983, and we definitely all have one or two favorites to pick from. So how do we debate these beloved series in the year 2019? IMDb, of course.
Thanks to Disney's new streaming service, Disney+, we're able to rewatch and relive some of our favorite Disney Channel shows at our leisure.But where would we think to begin? Let's take a peek at how the IMDb users grade some of our favorite shows from Disney's original network.
The Suite Life of Zack and Cody - 6.4
When many people think of a zany Disney Channel sitcom, The Suite Life of Zack and Cody is definitely one of the standouts that come to mind. The adventures of the Martin twins and their antics in the wild Tipton hotel can be experienced once more with the purchase of Disney+.
When they're not driving Mr. Moseby batty in the lobby, the twins are hanging out with some of their new friends staying at the hotel. True, it is one of the more screwball shows on our list, but we'd be lying if we said there wasn't a certain charm to the brothers' mischief.
That's So Raven - 6.5
We're honestly surprised this show ranks so low on the list. Think about it. A family sitcom with a teenage psychic? That's a pretty creative idea, and we can certainly understand the reason for the fanbase and Raven's return in her sequel series. That being said, That's So Raven does get a bit formulaic.
For those not familiar with the show, Raven Baxter is a psychic and once per episode, she has a vision that foresees something in the near future. Whether for good or bad, Raven and her friends act on said vision and comedy ensues. A bit repetitive, but we'd still watch again.
Lilo and Stitch: The Series - 6.7
We don't know who put this so low on IMDb's radar, but it's worth at least a high 7 or 8 to us. Who would have thought Stitch would have gotten such an imaginative and creative spin-off? It's not the most complex premise, but it's one we certainly don't mind watching over and over again.
Lilo and Stitch: The Series was basically Disney's version of Pokémon. Lilo and Stitch would go hunting for Jumba's other 625 alien experiments while trying to keep them from the clutches of Dr. Hämsterviel and Captain Gantu. We only wish there were 625 episodes to do the series justice.
Phil of the Future - 7.0
Now we're getting into some sci-fi binging with Phil of the Future. Where would the Disney Channel sitcom line-up be without our favorite 22nd-century man? When the Diffy family's time machine breaks down while on vacation in 2004, they have to blend in with 21st-century society until they can make it back home.
With a premise like that, how has this not been remade or rebooted for Disney+? The humor might be, in lack of a better word, dated at this point, but we can't deny that it does have a certain quirky and weird quality to it.
Kim Possible - 7.2
Danger or trouble, she's there on the double. Bringing some super-spy action to our list, it's Kim Possible. Similar to Disney's Darkwing Duck, Kim Possible both acts as a tribute and a parody of the action/superhero genres. With a strong female lead, a dude instead of a damsel in distress, and a slew of colorful villains to fight, this show has it all.
Definitely one of the channel's most beloved shows, Kim turned the heroic role on its head when the show first premiered. If you were let down by the live-action remake, feel free to stream the original series to your heart's content.
Even Stevens - 7.5
Before he was a movie star, a political activist and a meme generator, Shia LaBeouf was the quintessential rambunctious little brother, Louis Stevens, in Even Stevens. It was the show that jumpstarted his career and it's definitely one of Disney's most relatable sitcoms they've ever released.
The Stevens family, aside from some of Louis' schemes and stunts, are one of the more realistic Disney families we've seen. The siblings are grounded and real, the parents are just goofy enough without going over-the-top, and the humor definitely has the substance and heart that a few modern sitcoms seem to miss.
Phineas and Ferb - 7.9
Aren't these guys a little new to be considered Disney Channel classics? They might be, but we're happy to have them on our list anyway. The animated adventures of these two inventive brothers have kept us watching since 2007, and we're definitely envious of how long their summer vacation lasted.
If watching the two brothers build various whosits and whatsits isn't your thing, the B plots featuring Perry the Platypus/Agent P facing off against his nemesis, Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz, definitely make the show that much better. It's smart, well-written, and brilliantly animated. We'd give it more than a 7.9 any day.
Mickey Mouse - 8.0
In 2013, Disney had the brilliant idea to bring their biggest star back to screen with brand new animated adventures. Mickey Mouse has Mickey, Minnie, and all their friends in different scenes, scenarios, and other outings to give us some pure, classic Disneyness in the form of five-to-eight minute short films.
The new Mickey shorts harken back to the mouse's early animated career and are definitely a step in the right direction. The art style by Paul Rudish is unique but has a classic comic book feel we can totally support. If you haven't watched them on Disney+, definitely hit up Mickey's Youtube channel and check them out.
DuckTales (2017) - 8.2
The original show is definitely a shining star among Disney animated series, but there's definitely something to be said about the reboot that's captured the hearts of Disney fans old and new. It has enough to keep the younger viewers entertained, but a goldmine of Easter eggs and references to make the older ones want to binge as well.
Next to Angelina Jolie as Maleficent, David Tennant as Scrooge McDuck is the best casting decision Disney's made in years. The characters are just as engaging and the adventures are just as thrilling as their '90s ancestor. Not ponytails or cottontails, it's DuckTales!
Gravity Falls - 8.9
Definitely worthy of the top spot, Gravity Falls is one of the strangest, smartest, and most surreal shows the network has ever devised. If the size of the fanbase wasn't an indicator of how brilliant this show is, its writing, humor and imagery should be.
The series follows Dipper and Mable Pines as they spend a summer in the strange town of Gravity Falls. Armed with their wits and a trio of journals, they face off against gnomes, ghosts, and demons from parallel dimensions over the course of this incredible series. We can see why it takes the #1 spot.
