Which Pixar films will be available to stream on Disney+ at launch, and which ones will fans have to wait for? As the likes of Netflix continue to grow within the film and TV industry, rapidly rising to compete with more conventional outlets such as movie theaters and live television, studios are rushing to get a piece of the action by setting up their own in-house services. The platform boasting the most impressive roster of content is perhaps Disney+, which will not only contain classic movies from Disney's past, but will contain plenty of material from Mickey's more recent purchases such as Star Wars and Marvel.

Another key component of Disney's back catalog are their Pixar movies. Bursting onto the animation scene with Toy Story in 1995, Pixar was purchased by Disney just over a decade later and the companies have been synonymous ever since, producing a stream a major hits that resonate with a wide mainstream audience. Given Pixar's importance to Disney's theatrical release schedule, it's only natural that the studio would be a major attraction for their shiny new streaming service.

10 Cutest Pixar Characters That Are So Fluffy We Could Die

Fortunately for Pixar fans, the vast majority of the studio's output will be available to stream on Disney+ from the get-go and all of the big names are certainly present. 17 of Pixar's 21 theatrical releases have been confirmed for the Disney+ roster so far, which is a far stronger ratio than other sections of the platform, such as the 7 out of 23 Marvel movies that will be included. The Pixar films currently announced for Disney+ are:

  • Toy Story
  • A Bug's Life
  • Toy Story 2
  • Monsters Inc.
  • Finding Nemo
  • The Incredibles
  • Cars
  • Ratatouille
  • WALL-E
  • Toy Story 3
  • Cars 2
  • Brave
  • Monsters University
  • Inside Out
  • The Good Dinosaur
  • Finding Dory
  • Cars 3

That's certainly a good chunk of material for animation fans to be getting on with, and includes all of the big iconic releases that fans of all ages will be expecting for their monthly subscription fee, such as the Toy Story movies, Monsters Inc. and Finding Nemo. Disney+ may also offer a chance at redemption for Pixar's sole flop, The Good Dinosaur, which could find new appreciation among streamers. In addition to their feature-length output, Disney have also confirmed that all Pixar shorts will be available on Disney+ from the start.

Pixar Films Not Confirmed For Disney+ At Launch

Despite the solid amount of Pixar content that will come with Disney+ on day one, there are a few glaring omissions. While these films haven't been confirmed for the platform yet, they will definitely find their way onto the streaming service eventually and, in some cases, a future date has already been revealed. The Pixar movies absent from Disney's confirmed catalog are:

  • Up
  • Coco
  • Incredibles 2
  • Toy Story 4

CocoIncredibles 2 and Toy Story 4 are Pixar's most recent three movies, with the oldest (Coco) having been released in November 2017. It can perhaps be surmised, then, that this is the reason they won't become available straight away, with Coco due to leave Netflix only days before Disney+ is rolled out. Toy Story 4, meanwhile, released on home media earlier this month and has been confirmed as a Disney+ addition for early 2020. The real anomaly is Up, which is the single older Pixar movie not confirmed. This may be an oversight, or it may have something to do with Disney's deal with Starz, the service Up is currently streaming on. Alternatively, perhaps Disney just want to spare fans from reliving that tragic intro sequence.

In any case, Disney have officially confirmed that ALL Pixar movies will becoming available on Disney+ within the platform's first year. Future releases such as Onward and Soul will appear on the service approximately 4 months after their home media debut.
