Disney+ has revamped the way the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies are organized on the streaming service, giving subscribers different orders to watch. Disney+ launched on November 12, 2019. Its library of Star Wars and MCU movies made it immediately stand out against competitors such as Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Video. While most MCU movies are available, distribution rights prohibit Spider-Man: HomecomingSpider-Man: Far From Home, and The Incredible Hulk from being included.

Despite those missing links, Disney+ is where Marvel fans can go to relive every major moment from 2008's Iron Man through 2019's Avengers: Endgame. The service also has plans for several original series to further flesh out the universe with WandaVision, The Falcon and The Winter Solider, and Loki the first three series set to hit Disney+. Phase Four is set to begin (on the film side) with 2021's Black Widow and those films will eventually find their way to Disney+.

Now when subscribers log in to Disney+, they will see the MCU titles organized in a brand new way. As The Verge notes, no longer will titles be randomly strung together. Instead, the streaming service has divided its MCU movies by phase. Additionally, it presents viewers with the chance to watch everything in chronological order, beginning with Captain America: The First Avenger and ending with Avengers: Endgame.

Disney+'s MCU collection follows the example set by the Star Wars collection. The Skywalker saga is presented to subscribers in reverse chronological order. It begins with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, running through the sequel trilogy, original trilogy, Star Wars series, and finishing off with the prequels. Fans of that franchise often debate the value of watching the films in chronological order or in the order they hit theaters. Now MCU fans can do the same.

The reorganization of the MCU movies is sure to be a welcomed change for Disney+ subscribers. Browsing through titles can be frustrating especially when trying to watch them in a specific order. It can also be overwhelming and lead to more time spent finding something to watch rather than actually watching it. The new design is both more aesthetically pleasing and makes it much easier for Marvel fans to find exactly what they are looking to watch. Given the delay in new content due to production delays, plenty of MCU fans have been doing their own marathons. Now Disney+ makes it simple to go from movie to movie and phase to phase. Knowing exactly when a phase begins and ends can also lead to a better understanding of the overall storytelling in the MCU.

Offering the chance to watch things in chronological order also offers an interesting wrinkle. But there is the chance that it would only make the MCU's jumbled, intertwined timeline more confusing. Going from Captain America into Captain Marvel is jarring and certainly would not be recommended for someone's first foray into the MCU. Factor in the missing movies like The Incredible Hulk and Spider-Man and things can get even trickier to follow. Still, Disney+ deserves credit for finding a creative way to present these movies to audiences and allow for a more personalized MCU viewing experience.
