The Walt Disney Parks are built primarily on existing intellectual property. While original rides used to be more popular, these days they are being replaced by more establish brands. For instance, California Adventure has been largely taken over by Pixar themed rides.

Since the Disney catalogue is so large and there's such a vast array of franchises in the movie archives, it's difficult to see how each major film series could be adapted into a ride. However, there's a great number of popular films that have never been seen in Disney parks before, perhaps due to a lack of creative ideas, or maybe because they are planned for future expansion projects.

Up (2009)

Up Disney Pixar

Disney and Pixar's Up is an absolutely heart warming story. While the first 5 minutes of the film are ironically tragic, the journey that these characters go on is really something special to watch. It's also an adventure guests should be able to go on too.

It's not too hard to imagine a ride that has Disney fans in their own version of Carl's house, whisked into the air by balloons and taken on an adventure across Paradise Falls, similar in a way to how rides like Soarin work.

Percy Jackson Series

Percy Jackson

The Percy Jackson franchise is an exciting one full of monsters, gods, and heroes. It's an action packed adventure that will be getting rebooted on Disney+, thanks to the great work of Rick Riordan and an established creative team at the streaming service.

It would be interesting to see Disney capitalize on this further and bring Camp Half-Blood to Disney Parks across the world. Whether it's a ride, a hotel situation or something else entirely, guests will probably want to get the Percy Jackson experience.

Tangled (2010)

Rapunzel is one of Disney's most famous princesses. In fact, Tangled really helped to usher in a new era of animation at the Walt Disney Company. It's therefore an important part of their history, but is only honored at some parks with a tower off in the distance.

There's a great number of ways in which Tangled could be adapted into a ride, but it certainly seems logical for the ride to follow that golden hair in some capacity. However, it also makes sense for this to be a much slower ride, perhaps telling the story of the film.

Lady And The Tramp (2019)

Lady and the Tramp spaghetti scene from the live action version

Lady and the Tramp is a really valued franchise for Disney. It's one of the movies they launched Disney+ with, adapting the animated classic into a live action setting. Yet, the two titular character's have not been seen in any Disney rides.

A chase through the streets of New Orleans would be a wonderful thing to see, as guests follow the two dogs until their famous spaghetti scene. It would be a charming and wonderous ride, since let's be honest, who doesn't love cute dogs!

Maleficent Series

Maleficent

She has been nicknamed the Mistress of Evil and has been utilized in a number of Disney properties as the main villain of the piece. She's in parades and her dragon can even be found beneath one of the Disney castles. But, there is no ride based on Maleficent.

The character, played by Angelina Jolie, is formidable enough to have her own movies, asides from her original animated appearances. It is quite bizarre that there is no villainous ride, affected by the dark (or rather misunderstood) magic of this sorceress.

The Jungle Book Series

The Jungle Book Mowgli Disney

The Jungle Book can certainly be considered a classic and it is another animated hit that Disney decided to adapt into live action, to great success. There's no rides based on the classic film, although there could be a very good reason for this.

The most logical type of ride is a trip through the jungle, perhaps with Baloo as a guide. However, this is very similar to the pre-existing Jungle Cruise, which will also be getting a film franchise soon. Needless to say, the two ideas clearly clash a little too much.

Princess And The Frog (2009)

Princess and the frog Tiana Disney

The Princess and the Frog is actually finally getting a ride at Disney Parks, as the company is replacing the controversial Splash Mountain. However, quite shockingly before these plans there hadn't really been a hint of a Tiana based ride.

Considering all the great elements that a ride could draw upon, from the fantastic city of New Orleans, to the magic of Dr Facilier and the whole story of frog to princess, it is quite surprising that something wasn't in development sooner.

The Hunchback Of Notre Dame (1996)

Quasimodo is one of Disney's must under-represented characters in merchandise and in their parks. It would be easy to imagine a role for Quasi in Epcot for instance, with France coming alive through the eyes of the model maker and bell ringer.

The ride should of course incorporate Notre Dame in some capacity and might become quite the attraction in order to really showcase the world. It doesn't appear as if there are any future plans for such a ride though.

Hercules (1997)

The god of heroes has always been quite the popular character for Disney, with the popularity of Hercules and Meg rising quickly over the last few years. There's even talk of a live action adaptation that Hercules fans are already fan-casting.

A ride on a Pegasus seems like a perfect fit for Disney Parks. In fact, the Flight of the Hippogriff at Universal Studios might even create the perfect template for such a ride. Again, there doesn't appear to be any plans to bring this hero to life currently.

Mary Poppins (1964)

Mary Poppins is a beloved character further established by Disney. With a recent sequel starring Emily Blunt the character may finally be getting her own ride in World Showcase, as part of the England section.

This makes a lot of sense, but what doesn't add up is why it took so long for the parks to establish a ride based on the character at all. She has represented the Disney brand for a long time and there's a lot of great potential in the films for a fun experience.
