It's hard to believe that another decade has passed. 2010 was an exciting time. Ten years into the new millennium, the world said goodbye to the 2000s and welcomed a new era. Disney put out ten great films during 2010. Some of them went to theaters, and others went straight to cable as Disney Channel Original Movies.

The media landscape was different during this time period. We were not yet a streaming-happy world, so live television and theatrical movie releases held even more attention then than they do now. There was an added level of excitement to tuning in at a certain time for a cable movie premiere or getting to the theater as soon as possible to see something new. Here are ten great movies that are turning ten this year, and most of them are on Disney+.

Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam

This DCOM premiered on September 3, 2010. This was not the first time Disney Channel waited until the end of the summer to release a summer vacation movie. They also waited until August 17, 2007, to premiere High School Musical 2.

With Camp Rock 2, the main cast members from the first movie returned. Competing with the talents of Demi Lovato, the Jonas Brothers, Alyson Stoner, and more, some new singers show up at Camp Star, a rival music camp across the lake from Camp Rock. The two camps must battle it out to see which group's talent is superior.

Starstruck

It's hard to capture what Starstruck is in words. With a Valentine's Day premiere, the movie was a fun a love story to add to the DCOM line-up. Christopher Wilde (played by Sterling Knight) is the hottest pop star around, and Sarah Olsen is obsessed with him. Her sister, Jessica, has no interest in the heartthrob.

On a California vacation visiting their grandmother, Sarah and Jessica bond when Jessica agrees to help Sarah find Christopher Wilde. Spoiler alert: Jessica and Christopher fall in love.

Den Brother

Den Brother was a great addition to the DCOM family. Starring Hutch Dano and G Hannelius, the film is about a hockey-playing big brother who steps in to lead his little sister's Bumble Bee Troop when they are without a den mother.

This movie encourages sibling bonding and manages to include some romance between Dano's character, Alex Pearson, and a teenage Bumble Bee legend, Matisse Burrows (played by Kelsey Chow).

Avalon High

Love Arthurian legend? Can't get enough of Gothic architecture? In the mood for a romantic story with equal parts mystery and suspense? If you answered yes to any of those questions, Avalon High is the movie to watch on Disney+.

The lovely Britt Robertson plays Allie Pennington, a high school student whose entire world turns into King Arthur's life. Her friends form an Arthur-Guinevere-Lancelot love triangle. Allie fights against the evil powers of Mordred, convinced that football hero Will Wagner (Gregg Sulkin) is the modern-day Arthur. To top it all off, her parents are Arthurian scholars, so Allie has all the tools to make sense of her...fantasy? Reality? Watch the movie to figure out which one it is.

Alice in Wonderland

2010 Alice in Wonderland

The live-action remake craze at Disney seems very new and feels like it has happened all at once, but remember that Alice in Wonderland was remade way back in 2010. In the Tim Burton re-imagining,

Alice is a nineteen-year-old, and she must take down the Red Queen. Alice is played by Mia Wasikowski, and she is joined by the likes of Helena Bonham Carter, Alan Rickman, Anne Hathaway, and the Mad Hatter, Johnny Depp.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

Jake Gyllenhall played the Prince of Persia, and his princess was played by Gemma Arterton. As Disney+ summarizes, they must join together to secure "the magical dagger that gives its possessor the power to reverse time and rule the world."

This film is not available on Disney+ until August 2020. It is one of several titles that are still unavailable due to preexisting agreements.

The Sorcerer's Apprentice

The narrative of the sorcerer and his apprentice is pervasive in popular culture. It's much older than one would expect, though. In 1797, Goethe published a ballad poem called "The Sorcerer's Apprentice," but he likely got his subject matter from the writings of Lucian of Samosata, a satirist who lived from 120 to 180 CE.

Yet another delayed Disney+ holding, The Sorcerer's Apprentice, told the story again in 2010.  Nicolas Cage plays a modern-day sorcerer in Manhattan named Balthazar Blake. Watch for it in late October on Disney's streaming platform.

Secretariat

Secretariat is connected to Big Red of Meadow Stable: Secretariat, the Making of a Champion, William Nack's book chronicling the true story of a thoroughbred racehorse that won the US Triple Crown in 1973.

It is one of several horse movies available on Disney+. Line it up with Horse Sense, Ready to Run, Gus, and The Young Black Stallion for a day-long horse marathon.

Tangled

Rapunzel looks out of her tower in Tangled

Take a break from Frozen-mania and watch Disney's idea of Rapunzel, Tangled. It has great music and vibrant colors, and it brings to the screen a familiar story in a fresh presentation.

If you want more Tangled, watch the hour-long special (Before Ever After) or even the animated series and collection of short films.

Toy Story 3

Toy Story started its journey in 1995 and released its second film in 1999. In 2019, the world got Toy Story 4. Nestled right in the middle of twenty years of Toy Story is the third movie. It was highly anticipated and brought its devoted fans an interesting story. When Andy goes to college, all his beloved toys are accidentally dropped off at a daycare center.

Of course, the original toys are met with some new and unfamiliar creatures. See what happens when Jessie, Woody, Buzz, and friends are stuck at Sunnyside Daycare. It's a journey!
