The idea of a Mulan live-action remake has been in the works for a several years, but it was finally announced in 2016 that it would officially be getting a 2018 release date. Well, Disney has decided to bump the release of this particular reboot until 2020, due to the
fact that it took so long to find a lead actress.
Finally, however, it seems the studio has found its star in Liu Yifei, a Chinese actress whose previous work includes the 2008 film The Forbidden Kingdom. Much to the dismay of the original film’s many fans, it has been revealed that this new Mulan movie won’t include any musical numbers.
The reboot’s director Niki Caro has instead suggested that the film will be mainly martial arts, telling Screen Rush: “the budget and the location and the story is offering such scope to me for [an] incredible, muscular piece of girly martial arts extravaganza in China. And I can’t wait. "
Mulan release date: March 27, 2020.
