Disney has created some of the most well-known characters in the history of cinema. Whether it be Simba, The Genie or any of the major princesses such as Belle or Elsa, there are tons of characters who have become iconic and are known throughout the world.

However, Disney has created far more great characters than just those that get the mainstream attention. There are tons of amazing characters that are incredibly underrated, whether that be main characters who carry films, amazing villains or hilarious sidekicks.

The Carpet (Aladdin)

One of Disney's biggest and most successful movies is Aladdin, which has countless fantastic characters. From Princess Jasmine and Aladdin himself to The Genie and Jafar, there are many characters who get the credit they deserve.

However, The Carpet actually ends up being quite underrated within this movie. He might not be able to talk at all, but he shows tons of personality through his emotions, both in terms of humor and sadness. He's loyal and incredibly helpful throughout and deserves more recognition.

Nani (Lilo & Stitch)

When people think about Lilo & Stitch, they instantly go to the two main characters, who are popular. Even though the movie primarily focuses on them, Nani is absolutely fantastic and deserves more love than she gets from Disney fans.

She has gone through the same losses as Lilo, but because she is older and is the adult in the movie, it is overlooked. She is clearly struggling in life, but still does everything possible to provide Lilo with an amazing life, which is something that is seriously underrated.

Professor Ratigan (The Great Mouse Detective)

It isn't just the heroes that are underrated Disney characters, as many of the villains are also overlooked at times. Arguably the most underrated villain is Professor Ratigan, as he has everything you could want in a great Disney villain, in terms of his physical appearance and his mannerisms.

Since The Great Mouse Detective isn't one of the most popular Disney films, a lot of people overlook him as a character. People instantly think about the mainstream villains such as Scar or Gaston, but with his menacing voice and evil intentions, Ratigan is just as impressive.

Bianca & Bernard (The Rescuers/The Rescuers Down Under)

The fact that they are one of the only characters to earn a sequel should show how great the main characters from The Rescuers franchise are. However, because the two films aren't two of Disney's most popular, this incredible power couple is often overlooked.

That's a shame because they are utterly brilliant and loveable. They love each other dearly and their adventures are awesome to watch. While Bernard is often a little reserved and scared, Bianca has no problems diving headfirst into adventure, which makes for a fun relationship.

Panchito & Jose (The Three Caballeros)

The Three Caballeros is an amazing Disney movie that more people need to see at some point, but while all three characters are great, it is often Donald Duck who takes all the plaudits simply because of his fame. He's loud and over the top, which therefore why Donald steals the movie.

However, both Panchito & Jose are equally as good as him. They bring tons of energy to the movie, and a bit of flair as well. Whether it's Panchito firing off his guns whenever he gets excited or Jose's cool business style appearance, they are excellent characters who deserve more attention.

Phil (Hercules)

Hercules is another fantastic Disney movie that is full of both comedy, romance, and action all at once. When it comes to comedy, it really is Phil who brings the laughs as Hercules' coach. Voiced to perfection by Danny DeVito, he brings a great sense of joy to the role.

Phil is fantastic all the way through this film, as he goes from being excited about the prospect of training another legend to becoming disappointed and then ultimately proud. He's fun, but also brings a sense of purpose and emotion to Hercules' character.

Little John (Robin Hood)

Disney Robin Hood and Little John walking through the forest.

Robin Hood is obviously a classic story that Disney turned into a fantastic animation movie, and all the classic characters are part of it. Little John is a huge piece of every version of Robin Hood and Disney's version is no different as the big loveable bear really is one of the best characters in the film.

While Robin Hood gets a lot of the praise for putting himself in the line of danger to feed the poor, it is actually Little John who does a lot of the risk-taking. He has to put himself through all the same battles and is often a wiser head than Robin who jumps at decisions a little quicker.

Wilbur Robinson (Meet The Robinsons)

How can you not love this character? Wilbur Robinson has an incredible sense of adventure and a real zest for life which makes him just leap off the screen throughout the movie. Lewis might technically be the lead role in this film, but Wilbur brings just as much to it.

Seeing his relationship with his different family members if a lot of fun and it is those relationships that really help carry the movie, as Lewis gets to enjoy a real family, seeing what it is like. It might be a crazy world in which they live where a dinosaur is allowed to just roam around, but it is an enjoyable one that Wilbur makes even better.

Bagheera (The Jungle Book)

Disney The Jungle Book Baloo and Bagheera

Everyone knows The Jungle Book is a beloved Disney classic that is full of action and fun with many brilliant songs. However, because Bagheera isn't one of the big singing and dancing characters like Baloo or King Louie, he often gets overlooked by people when talking about their favorite characters.

He might not be the best pal to Mowgli like Baloo who always wants to have fun, but he cares about the man-cub just as much. Bagheera is loyal, trustworthy and someone who tries his best throughout the film. A wise soul who is a great friend, Bagheera deserves way more credit than he gets.

Quasimodo (The Hunchback Of Notre Dame)

Quasimodo is without a doubt one of Disney's most underrated characters, as he isn't given the credit he deserves for how entertaining he is. The entire movie is underrated in general, as it plays host to some of Disney's greatest songs and one of the darker stories.

He is kindhearted and loving, always looking out for others and gives a great lesson to not judge a book by its cover. He leads his film brilliantly and really is a character that should be talked about more.
