Disney's Guardians of the Galaxy-inspired ride Mission: BREAKOUT! is being transformed in time for Halloween. Anaheim's Disney California Adventure park opened the game-changing new ride back on May 27, with Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 writer/director James Gunn on hand to celebrate the premiere. Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort, meanwhile, takes place from Sept. 15 to Oct. 31 with a variety of new attractions and events geared toward families looking to have some frightful fun after sunset.

The Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: BREAKOUT! ride, which used to be the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, follows Rocket Raccoon as he helps the heroes escape from the Collector's fortress. It also features a cameo from Stan Lee. The main ride will remain intact through the Halloween season, but Disney has announced an expansion to the ride that will give riders a whole new additional experience to enjoy for Halloween Time.

Disney's new expansion to Mission: BREAKOUT! is called Guardians of the Galaxy- Monsters After Dark, as announced on the Oh My Disney blog on Thursday. The ride, which will take place immediately following Mission: BREAKOUT!, will follow Rocket's attempts to save Groot after he was left behind on the previous ride. Monsters After Dark will also feature an eponymous new song named after it by Guardians of the Galaxy composer Tyler Bates, according to Oh My Disney.

As reported on the Disney Parks blog, Rocket will enlist the help of riders to "distract the creatures that have been released" so he can find Groot along the way. The Collector's assistant Apheta will also appear on the ride and assure that the situation is just a "momentary setback", but riders will be advised to "proceed with caution". Monsters After Dark is expected to operate throughout Halloween Time's run from Sept. 15 through Halloween night.

Mission: BREAKOUT! is the latest winner to emerge from the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, easily one of Marvel Studios' biggest surprise successes. Much of the franchise's triumph can be attributed to the memorable performances and chemistry of the main characters, which are, of course, the backbone of the Mission: BREAKOUT! ride. The addition of a Halloween-themed portion of the ride is the latest indication of how in-demand the Guardians of the Galaxy have become.

Unfortunately, fans will have to venture out to Anaheim, California between Sept. 15 and Oct. 31 to experience Monsters After Dark. That certainly won't be a simple trip for anyone outside of the southern California area. But Halloween Time is always a major celebration at the Disneyland Resort and a worthwhile experience for fans of both the holiday and Guardians of the Galaxy.
