Disney is adding the Marvel TV series previously shown on Netflix, and the new revelation gives the company a chance to fix its censorship faux pas. Marvel's various TV series, including Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders, and The Punisher, are exiting Netflix for Disney+. The company announced the shows would head to the Disney streaming platform on March 16, 2022. The move will further unify Marvel's brand on Disney+ and may also hint at the futures of the Marvel characters, including Charlie Cox's Daredevil and Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones. Interestingly, Marvel's Netflix projects will maintain their original TV-MA ratings, allowing them to keep their more adult-themed content.

Disney+ has come a long way since its launch day platform woes, which left viewers having trouble accessing titles. The platform now has around 130 million subscribers, and it's looking to add even more with an upcoming ad-supported, lower-priced tier. In addition to an extensive library of titles, Disney+ has also extended its own franchises with critically acclaimed original content. For example, Marvel has released several Disney+ shows directly tied to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Star Wars has also boosted the platform with The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett.

A censorship error led to a viral mistake on Disney+, and now the streamer has the chance to fix the problem. Because of Marvel's TV-MA shows, Disney is updating its parental controls to include better rating restrictions. The update gives the streamer a chance to fix an embarrassing error with its previous censorship. In 2020, Disney+ went viral for quietly removing nudity from its movies, including giving Daryl Hannah CGI hair over her butt in Splash, Tom Hanks' 1984 romcom. Disney+ can now remove its odd CGI additions, restoring movies to their original formats.

Disney+'s odd edits are a strange distraction. For instance, Splash featured nonsexual nudity. However, besides giving Daryl Hannah fake hair to cover her butt, Disney+ also blurs out her posterior in other scenes and zooms in on shots to hide the actor's body. In addition to creating unusual shots, the edits have Disney+ going viral for all the wrong reasons. The censorship news even had fans comparing the hair covering Hannah's butt to the fur technology used in the box office flop Cats. Disney's new parental controls will now potentially allow Splash and other films to remove their strange edits, eliminating future viral faux pas.

Though the censorship was humorous, Disney+ has a reason behind it. Before its updated parental controls, Disney+ was all about family-friendly content. It's a safe platform for kids to enjoy where they can't go down weird rabbit holes like on YouTube or other video channels where the lines blur between what's appropriate and what's not. However, thanks to new parental controls, Disney can have Marvel's TV-MA shows in their original formats and even create its own more mature content. And through it all, Disney won't become the butt of the joke.
